Mata a delusional player
"United deserve trophies" according to Juan Mata:Why ?they have a poor back four weak up front and little quality in midfield
Too many players who have been hyped up to believe they are world beaters don't turn up in pressure games
OGS out by Christmas and a top 10 place at best
They are light years behind City and Liverpool who have rebuilt with top players over the past few years and United have not.

Re: Mata a delusional player
Agreed we've listened to this "deserving" nonsense from OT for 50+ years, delusional rubbish given their current over-paid, over-hyped squad of ageing journeymen like Mata, Jones, Smalling and Matic.

Re: Mata a delusional player
Always wary of this kind of narrative as a Burnley fan, because it isn't too far a leap from there before you get to the old "Leeds should be in the EPL", then "Burnley aren't really a big enough club to be in the EPL"
Merit, merit, merit, or we may as well shut the lot of it down.

Re: Mata a delusional player
They don’t deserve anything but for their size they should be winning them.
I hope we’ve learnt some lessons from them in terms of what happens when someone who has that much control leaves after a long period of time.
Different levels but we’ve achieved more than we thought possible under Dyche. Hope we don’t turn into a mess when he decides to go.

Re: Mata a delusional player
This is exactly the problem at Man Utd,they have an entitlement culture, compare to Man City,Liverpool and even Tottenham, all those 3 have a hunger for success, which is sadly lacking at OT.
I can't believe they've given extended contracts to Jones,Martial,Mata,Smalling and Young,Mctominay makes sense he's a shining light in a dire season for them.
Talk of big new deals for De Gea and Pogba also, clearly mediocrity is rewarded nowadays, they didn't even make the top 4,this failure to earn CL football meant they forfeited bonuses, but if your creaming vast amounts for average performances, why should they care.
I'm not convinced any manager could turn this around overnight, the problems are deep-rooted,starting with Ed Woodward, the man is clueless about football, might be great at business, but that doesn't bring trophies.

Re: Mata a delusional player
I'm not a big fan of Man U but I quite like Juan Mata, he seems to live a more rounded life than most "in the bubble" top team millionaires. His Common Goal charity is a good innovation and is slowly increasing its spread (though not many top English league players involved despite their huge salaries). He's had an excellent career and still a v decent player.
What he said was "I am very happy to stay here. I am dreaming about winning big trophies at this club. That is what the fans deserve. We want to win big trophies again. That is what the history of this club deserves."
He also stated (pretty reasonably): "What we have to do is raise our level and compete and let's see where we end up. You know, the level in the Premier League is getting better every single year. All the clubs have been bringing very good players. So we need to try to be at our best."
Of course, Man U don't "deserve" trophies they have to earn them like anybody else; bookies have then as joint 4th (with Chelsea) favourites for the title this season, a bit behind Spuds and way behind Mn City & Liverpool. I think that's reasonable with Chelsea having lost Eden Hazard and being a bit hamstrung transfer-wise + Arsenal seemingly in the doldrums.

you really don't have to look beyond this board to find examples of people who think "we deserve" more than enough delusion to go round on here

I really don't get Newcastle thinking they're big winners. They've not won anything for decades and look at the stats... Sunderland are a more successful club than they!GodIsADeeJay81 wrote:Similar sort of delusion you hear from numerous other clubs, incl Newcastle, Leeds, Chelsea etc.

It doesn’t really help when the bloke on the tannoy at Old Trafford introduces it as the biggest/best football club in the world. If you are the best football club in the world you don’t need to spout it.
