Re: Geordies
Good luck to em.
They so often pay big for ones that are relatively unknown or unproven. This coupled with the fact they now have the fine athletic specimen known as Steve Bruce to provide his unequalled training and tactical advice, should help lead them to 18th or worse.
We will see but sounds like a risky one to me...

Shelvey was on £70k a week or so last time they were in the PL, so this lad is probably on something similar.

1926 last time they won anything decent, league title.
Lot's of bluff and bluster about their fans, but hardly a sleeping giant, they're fairly useless as a team.

Re: Geordies
Don't get me wrong doug ( one of my all time favourite players)
They are a mess of a club and their fans can be a pain in the backside at times.
In my lifetime of watching the Clarets there are few clubs where I have sat back and been in awe of the opposition fans.
Sheffield Wed ( already relegated but filling the cricket field stand and singing for 90 minutes)
Arsenal( when I was young and mesmerised by their colours)
Liverpool ( in the kop end before Grand National day.)
And one or two others including the Newcastle fans who I had the honour of witnessing in the St James Ground on Bobby Robson European home and away nights ( yes, a bit of a clue there)
Still hurting after that semi final like all Burnley fans of my generation and before. You bell... Mcdonald!

Mike Ashley doing some of that worst ownership in the footballing world again. No doubt the Geordies will forget about this massive expenditure tomorrow.

I chat regularly to a former season ticket holder at St James Park in my local...Elizabeth wrote:I like the passion the Geordie fans have and would much prefer Brighton, West Ham and Leicester were relegated
He refuses to put any more money into the coffers up there while Ashley is in the Hot seat.
He now watches all matches online home and away via free streams.
He is dreading this season under the tutelage of Brucie due to the Mackem connection (even though Brucie reckons he was a Toon fan as a kid)
He cites the 11 teams managed in 20 years as the reason.

Re: Geordies
I work with several Newcastle fans and have a lot of respect for them. I want them to finish below us but they are authentic and belong in the PL - I can easily think of several clubs I'd much rather see relegated - all of them on the wrong side of the north/south divide.

Admittedly better teams and he's won lots of stuff, but is the Geordie fans issue Bruce moving around or simply because he's a bang average manager, just about?

He was the best player and certainly looked like a man playing for a transfer. Very tricky runner with the ball but kept running into blind alleys, partly because he had no-one to pass to.Longsider wrote:He did and was their best player by all accounts.
On the other hand, he wore gloves. He'll be no use in winter.

Re: Geordies
There's a 1-page article in the latest When Saturday Comes magazine outlining the current situation at Newcastle (another publicised takeover that appears to be petering out, top manager departing, key squad members departing, fan disillusionment).
It reckons that there are quite a lot of fans following up on the "If Rafa goes we go" movement- but we'll see how the gates look when the season starts, loyal fans need a lot of shaking off.
Their player losses have been significant though.
Perez played forward in 36 Prem games last season and was their top scorer with 12- SOLD
Rondon played forward in 31 Prem games and was 2nd highest scorer with 11- LOAN ENDED
(4 goals was the next highest by any player)
Joselu played forward in 16 Prem games (mostly as sub) and scored 2 goals - SOLD
Kenedy played midfield in 14 (starts) + 10 (subs) - LOAN ENDED
Diame played 23 + 5 Prem games - RELEASED
ManU sniffing round Longstaff as well.
They have bought Joelinton for £40 million but thats a bit of a gamble.
Season ticket prices are said to have increased by 10% (and, of course, Rafa has been lost and replaced by Steve Bruce who has a good record of getting teams up from the Championship but not really in Rafa's class).
Might be ructions there if August and September go badly and the takeover doesn't happen.
