The Weather
The Weather
Anyone else sat up watching this?
I'm currently sat in my van in bandit country. I'm certain there has been some strikes close by.
Really impressive storm

Re: The Weather
It's exciting watching the lightning and listening for the thunder, especially as there is no rain.

It's the best kind of weather. Well worth staying up for, and going for a walk in given the ******* temperature.spadesclaret wrote:It's exciting watching the lightning and listening for the thunder, especially as there is no rain.

Re: The Weather
Going for a walk in the heavy rain of a thunder storm was always something I enjoyed until I became dependent on a wheelchair. It's not the same being pushed along in the rain. In fact, it's quite uncomfortable.
The storm has more or less petered out now. Still no rain.

Plenty of rain in Easton, Spades. I was expecting to have our kids in bed with us at some point, but they’re obviously good sleepers.

Ended up with our children in our bed absolutely petrified. Didn’t get to see it but it sounded pretty amazing!

Re: The Weather
We had it earlier than most down in North Hants I think. I got back into town c 23.40 and walked 2.5 miles back home, eschewing the cabs at the station. Got about half a mile into my walk and then saw the sky to the south and south west was lighting up every few seconds. Weirdly I couldn't hear thunder (though having been at a rock concert may've affected my hearing).
The flashes were getting nearer and nearer & more frequent and I was walking faster & faster to try and avoid the downpour that seemed inevitable. I got home just as a few drops of rain could be felt and the thunder actually heard.
Watched the rest from my upstairs window for the next hour or so. There was very little rain though, I was expecting a massive downpour and my garden pond to be filled up this morning.
Had this tune in my head all morning : Dry Lightening https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuMqkzHql0E

Thunder, lightening and rain between 12.45 and 4.00 here in the north- West Lakes. My dog was terrified, she jumped into my bed and stayed there all night.

Re: The Weather
Some people clearly need to look up the difference between the words Lightning and Lightening looking at this thread.
Lightning = electrical discharge associated with a storm
Lightening = making something lighter
They aren't interchangeable.

It's confirmed as the hottest July day ever recorded in the UK. Still expected to break the hottest ever recorded in the UK, 38.5C, in the next couple of hours.

Re: The Weather
In Auvergne, since June 20th it has rained a total of 1 time on a Saturday morning sometime way back for about 20 minutes. I've been living in 40-43° temperatures for 3 of these weeks, the inside of my car recorded 48° two days ago, my mate's polytunnel has a thermometer that goes up to 50° and the liquid went 1cm past that to where there are no numbers on the wood. Incredible heat, finally it rained last night, heavy storm and the temperature today dropped to 39. Lots of storms forecast for the next 3 days, phew, bizarrely the temperature on Samedi is said to drop to 15° in the daytime then back up into the high 20s low 30s next week.
