"I know this isn't England's First X1"
Cannot see how they are going to strengthen the batting significantly, especially the top3, before the First Test next week. Burns on this showing is a walking wicket.

Neither can i but the warning signs have been flashing for at least a couple of years now,how many times have England found themselves 3 down for less than 50,usually Root,Stokes or Buttler have ridden to the rescue,at least Roy made runs today thank goodness,so he'll open who'll partner him i have no idea.kentonclaret wrote:"I know this isn't England's First X1"

The bowling has papered over the cracks for far too long.i can't remember the last time England had a convincing test match batting showing and rattled up 500+,the fact that a nightwatchman can bat for nearly 4 hours and score 90,suggests that the pitch wasn't a problem today, and yet England still collapsed mid-innings again,it's so predictable, unless there is significant improvement the Ashes can be waved goodbye.

Re: Eng Vs Ire Test match
So what’s the answer?
Too much one-day and 20/20 is often cited as the reason batters can’t play properly but we still play enough four-day cricket that batters should know how to set their stall out for the long haul. The BP system in the CC doesn’t put too much pressure on to score at a pace that should result in reckless batting.
Is the fixture list so congested that the pressure is on to score quickly and finish games early to get an extra day off?
Is it a capability issue or does it just boil down to a poor mindset at the crease?

Poor levels of concentration. We have it all the time on lots of TV programmes when adverts come on and then this is followed by around one and a half minutesreminder of what happened before the adverts!TheFamilyCat wrote:So what’s the answer?

More and more people use their phones, computers, tablets to remind them what they need to do etc., etc. ---why?
A musician has one chance to get it right in any performance so they concentrate. When driving you need to have 100% concentration to drive properly, however, many drivers just use a car to go from A to B and do not concenetrate on what they are doing! I watched a programme the other day when a young lass had an accident and when asked what she was doing by the policeman ---she said that she was daydreaming! I tihnk that some of our cricketers have the same problem!

Yeah, I hate that. Ive always thought the reason was just to stretch out the programme though. They can eke out a 15-18 minute prog into 30 minutes by repeating bits.We have it all the time on lots of TV programmes when adverts come on and then this is followed by around one and a half minutesreminder of what happened before the adverts!
I found the cricket WC equally annoying- forever showing things that had happened earlier in the over/game; Jesus- Ive just watched it, no need to reiterate it as if I cant recall what happened a few minutes ago.

That should make a good half-hour discussion on TMS!

So one wicket to go then the Irish are in , still can't see them getting the runs to win the game but if they do it will do Irish cricket the world of good .

The Irish boys have played really well and not looked like they suffer from pressure.Tribesmen wrote:So one wicket to go then the Irish are in , still can't see them getting the runs to win the game but if they do it will do Irish cricket the world of good .
The chase could be different though when they realise they could win.
Unfortunately cricket is about 70% of a mental game with self doubt a huge factor.

Re: Eng Vs Ire Test match
It looks like Ireland will be chasing around 200 to win,if the pitch remains good, there's no reason why they can't knock them off,if i was in the Irish camp i'd be saying if Leech who's a nr 11 can bag 90+,then surely one or two of our top order can manage 50's.Quickenthetempo wrote:The Irish boys have played really well and not looked like they suffer from pressure.

Whatever the outcome the Irish will take the moral victory.
Re: Eng Vs Ire Test match
I think England will win this handily enough, but at least Ireland made it interesting.

Stone out first ball 182 to win .
Now rain ( always get in England not like Ireland ) has started but the play back on again at 12.30 .

Don't think we will do it Edison as I had put it at around 150 was just about right , but then what do I know just hope they can win today .
Love it at work as people are coming up to me asking have we won yet .
Re: Eng Vs Ire Test match
I spent yesterday running loops of the Stormont cricket pitch - amazed they let people onto it, provided they stick to the perimeter

Ireland have performed brilliantly.
No Test teams in the world would be comfortable batting there today.

The proof in the pudding will be when the Ashes start, but if i was an Australian watching this,i wouldn't be quaking in my boots about England's batting, the bowling on the other hand.
Never mind a 4 day test,if this is a guide to the rest of the summer, most of the games won't last beyond day 3,this one has just about got to a third day,and a lot of that is due to the weather.
I hope no-ones got 4th and 5th day tickets,because i fear they won't be required.

In reality, is this any different to a league side struggling against a non league team in the FA cup?
Perhaps not as easy as we think it should be.

Don't be a tit m8 I know its just Banter but in that 2nd Paddy innings ... Root made 4 catches Bairstow the 1 , apart from the bowlers they were the only others who touched the ball.LeadBelly wrote:The Yorkies who come on cricket threads will be quiet after that - Root + Bairstow 2 runs in total; then a low dropped catch from Root + one where the keeper couldnt be ***ed to move a foot to his right to take a catch..
Think yourself lucky they were at a non-testmatch and not at Headingly last night

I've never deleted a post of mine in all the time I've been on this board (or the previous).
Bairstow made a good catch for the first wicket but it doesnt alter the fact that he failed to move for one about a foot from him in the first innings and that his Test Match batting has been poor recently.
