Paypal - scam?

Post by BFCBaz » Fri Jul 26, 2019 6:22 pm

Had a text today saying that my PayPal is blocked and would I please confirm my identity today or account will be permanently closed. Is this a scam? not happy with anyone asking me to confirm my identity.
Attached phone number is 07762 828229.

Thanks for any help or advice

go to http://www.paypal.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, login to your account, and see if it's blocked

I can't imagine Paypal would use a mobile number surely. I'd check the account and contact Paypal if you have any concerns.

I think it's kosher.

Ring them and confirm your identity, just to be on the safe side.

Take a screenshot of the text and email it to spoof@paypal.com I do that with loads of Paypal scam emails

They will always refer to you by name and never ask for log in details.....

Oh yeah and ignore fatboys not-so excellent advice

When PayPal contact you they ALWAYS include your name within the email. Any Dear customer emails need reporting and binning.
I have had dozens of them.

I got one from VodaFone-uk (even the name looks dodgy) yesterday saying something similar. it had a link to follow which took you to a very realistic page. it then asked for all my bank details, card details, password and email address. all very clever.

Thanks for all the advice. definitely looks like a scam. I've checked PayPal account and it's not blocked.
I knew I could rely on BFC community to come up with the answer. Many thanks to all of you for taking the trouble. UTC
