I saw the wage - not far short of what we pay for the entire club staff

Crazy money no wonder so many players/managers go for one massive last pay day- doubt it will help Wales given travel involved to rock up at gamesClaretTony wrote:I saw the wage - not far short of what we pay for the entire club staff

Waste of talent moving there....although his wage probably means its the only option for him as he is clearly not wanted by Zidane

With a salary like that it suggests Madrid have waived any transfer fee to get off the wage bill

Re: Bale off for a Chinese
Good for him.
If he's not wanted and pretty much hated at Madrid he may as well go earn his coin elsewhere.
Oscar had it right when he said why he went to China the other year.
It's a short career, he might as well earn as much money as he can because retirement is a long one for footballers.

Re: Bale off for a Chinese
Precisely. He's got enough money now to burn a grand every week for the rest of his life ( i assume anyway)

Regarding the money I think it all depends what he does with all the money when he stops playing, so one last very big pay day can be fundamental in that strategy.
Not sure if most players have the medium/long term in mind beyond the short term but again it’s his life and his time so there we are.

Re: Bale off for a Chinese
There’s so much wrong with this move that I don’t know where to start.
Bale’s lack of ambition - hardly played in 4 years and is only 30 (I’ll let him off if a bit like Defour he has a potential long term issue staying fit). He has apparently not learned Spanish and doesn’t live the Spanish lifestyle. My kiddie is learning both languages and it seems certain Spanish is much easier so what hope in China!
Bale has probably earned over £30m in the past so nobody claim he needs it for a long retirement. You only live once, he should be living and achieving, not simply earning.
China paying £50m per year for 3 years - it is obviously either directly or indirectly the Chinese State paying it, which makes me highly uncomfortable.

He's been caught in a difficult situation. Real Madrid have basically told him to clear off but none of the other big European clubs want him.

Up to him, of course.
But it's an incredible waste of talent.
Will he be happy?
Maybe, if there's a JCB shovelling money into his bank account every day.
But....really?

I’m pretty sure he could play the rest of his career unpaid and still live very, very comfortably for the rest of his life.South West Claret. wrote:Regarding the money I think it all depends what he does with all the money when he stops playing, so one last very big pay day can be fundamental in that strategy.

231 appearances in all competitions in 6 years, he's not done bad.CrosspoolClarets wrote:There’s so much wrong with this move that I don’t know where to start.

As for ambition, he's had enough of it but he's stuck at a club that's given him a massive contract and a manager who wants him out.
He doesn't need to take a wage cut, no one else would.
I agree he should've learnt more Spanish.
In regards to what he's earned in career financially, that money will be spent, invested, some lost etc and he's going to retire before he's 40 and will be used to living a certain lifestyle so the more money he earns the better for him and his retirement.
Living and achieving, he's achieved more in Spain then many British footballers do in their entire career

I can't criticise anyone wanting to earn as much as possible...
If he plays his cards right, with this money he could set up his family for generations & generations

A 2009 study, showed that 78% of ex-NFL players were either bankrupt ( or suffering financial difficulties ) within 3 years of retirement.
Bad financial advice, hangers on, living up to and beyond your means, and marrying " good time girls " were the reasons attributed to this, I wouldn't disagree ... I hope Gareth Bale has salted his money away wisely ...

nobody else could afford him. He's already won the biggest title in club football 3 times, guess he thinks having complete family financial security for life is better than trying to win a league title

Think they’d all have him but not on those wages, it would have all their stars agents knocking at the chairman’s door.ClaretTony wrote:He's been caught in a difficult situation. Real Madrid have basically told him to clear off but none of the other big European clubs want him.
It’s a real shame, I wish he’d stayed in the prem as he really is an elite footballer, nobody knows how they’d react in the same position 52m a year, wow just wow!

Really bizarre that Zidane doesn’t want him, I respect Zidane as probably my favourite ever player but it’s a real strange one, especially as they don’t have Ronaldo anymore

Re: Bale off for a Chinese
Jealousy. Probably the ugliest possible trait.
Good luck to him. 4 Champions leagues. Including a wonder goal in the final last year. Almost single handedly got Wales to a European Semi Final, beating the world number 1 in the process.
Has been an incredible player. Is at a crossroads in his career but with his injuries and his style of play, meaning he may never get this financial opportunity again. Would be foolish to turn it down, particularly when no other clubs will pay him what he earns now and he has won the number 1 trophy more than most players ever win it.
Would he want a premier league title? Probably. But City wouldn't need him, Liverpool wouldn't pay him, Chelsea cant buy anyone and Uniteds last big money player like that hardly worked out.
Good luck to him.

He has been in and out since he was 25 hence why I am surprised he has chosen to cash in rather than trying to cement his place in history as a legend (which frankly, he won’t be, either for Spurs, Madrid or Wales - his achievements are very good but not great).

Madrid have a massive luxury of riches in attack where everybody other than Ronaldo got rotated or subbed when games were won.
In that period he won 3 Champions Leagues, including scoring in two finals, La Liga, Copa del Rey, UEFA Super Cup twice, World Club Cup twice, was top scorer in guiding his nation to their first tournament since 1958, was then their best player as they made it to the semi-finals against all odds and became his country’s all-time leading goalscorer.
He won’t be a legend for Wales? Do you know how many footballers in the history of the game have won 4 European Cups?
But yeah .... something about 2000 minutes in the League.
Mate ...... you’ve had an absolute shocker there.

Gareth Bale seems a really grounded person
Obviously, hes discussed this with his family and as a footballer you are always one game away from a career ending tackle
Personally,I didnt rate him that highly, but clearly others, Zidane apart , do

Anybody criticising him for moving from a place it hasn't worked out to a new venture and totally different lifestyle and culture experience for a million a week.
Get real! Where would you like him to go ? Back to his hometown club where he can have the **** taken out of his hair by the local thicknecks all for a 5th of the China money.

Re: Bale off for a Chinese
Even more cash is more important to him now than career. Nobody in Europe will be scrutinising his career from now on because they won’t be interested in it. Bale is a very good player player but I’m not sure he’s one of the greats. I’m also not sure how these Chinese clubs can afford to pay so much.
