Re: Clarets Players Careers Ruined By Injury
There was a lad we had on loan from Rovers, Jay McEverley. Came to get minutes under his belt after being injured and was then got seriously injured again, but with us.
Edit: just wiki’ed McEverley, his heart stopped beating while having a cheekbone operation when he was at Derby. A bit off topic, but jeez...

An ex Claret - Geoff Nulty.
If memory serves me right, Jimmy Case was the other party in a Liverpool derby.

31? I always thought he was much younger. Just looked him up on the wiki and he carved out a pretty good career for himself, sadly not for us.ClaretTony wrote:Not sure his career was ruined - he was 31 when we signed him

Most of those mentioned on had their careers curtailed or progress limited by " 3rd parties ", Mr Austen, sadly, was his own worst enemy ...Vintage Claret wrote: Charlie Austen- sure he would have been an England regular were it not for his glass shoulder/knee/ankle

Wasn't he already finished when he signed?ClaretTony wrote:Not sure his career was ruined - he was 31 when we signed him
I don't remember him playing many games but I remember him scoring against Huddersfield in 1992 with a huge knee brace on.
He only played three games for us and he scored a free kick on a flooded pitch against Huddersfield in his second game. He was substituted the following week at Bolton and we never saw him again.
We'd signed him from Volendam, we had him for two years and then he retired. He then worked for 17 years as a coach at Bristol City within the academy and has since worked for the Football League as a youth development regional manager so has never left the game.
