Classic Burnley Umbro kit
Anyone know when this kit is from? Guessing 1979-80ish?
Anyone see us play in it? Any memorable games?

The bloke holding it is a mate from Dundee. Bloke on his right (our left) is the owner of the shirt. A certain Ian Brittons nephew! Although will be before Brittons time for sure. But apparently they all love Burnley. Not surprised though. His uncle is a legend down here!

That kits a belter. The home one with the Umbro logos down the sleeves was also a cracker. Had high hopes that Umbro would go the full retro for this season but alas no
Re: Classic Burnley Umbro kit
I have the original home shirt.
Got it from ebay a couple years ago. They come up every now and again but usually in Youth sizes, so was chuffed to get a Small/Medium. It cost a bomb, though.

A thing of beauty. Long sleeves as well. How umbros lot missed out on redoing that I’ll never know. If you ever see one in fat size could you let me know. 50p commission in it for youChuckypad wrote:I have the original home shirt.

Re: Classic Burnley Umbro kit
Loved all the kits Umbro produced for us from the mid 70’s on. The Burnley V was a thing of beauty but the classic shirts with the Umbro logo trim were very nearly as good.
Lovely shirt. Must be Chance that they’ll release one in the leisurewear, as a polo shirt, and for considerably less than a official kit shirt to boot...

I think that’s the ‘83 away kit but not sure. Isn’t it the one we famously never won in?Jimmymaccer wrote:Anyone else got this? And if so.........which player is it!?

Yes Roger Eli looked more like John Francis with the neck line I always thought. Was some scoring spell that lead to that shirt.Jimmymaccer wrote:Anyone else got this? And if so.........which player is it!?

It is Roger Eli.Jimmymaccer wrote:Anyone else got this? And if so.........which player is it!?
I think I'm correct in saying that he played at the back for us, we had a striker shortage so he went up front. Scored goals for fun and found his new role.
BFC marketed those t-shirts as Burnley's secret weapon.

On the subject, can anyone tell me which year this Burnley umbra kit dates of?
It will help me recall how old I was when it was taken

Re: Classic Burnley Umbro kit
The shirt in the op was I think used on a couple of occasions in 81/82 eg Oxford and Newport, although we had switched from Umbro for the main shirts

Re: Classic Burnley Umbro kit
Ps. On those occasions the shirt was worn with thewhite Spall home shorts so we looked a bit like a pub league team! Neither of those two games was memorable for anything else!
Re: Classic Burnley Umbro kit
That was our first ever yellow away strip and also the first to use the ‘new’ club crest which we would use up until the play-off final in 2009. The shirt was used from 76/77 - 80/81.Belgianclaret wrote:On the subject, can anyone tell me which year this Burnley umbra kit dates of?

Re: Classic Burnley Umbro kit
This third shirt from the 89-91 seasons is hard to get old of. I got one a while back but never seen another for sale. There's one just been put on ebay:

Re: Classic Burnley Umbro kit
£80 for a old shirt which has been washed too many times
Re: Classic Burnley Umbro kit
Yes, it may just be a bad photo, but if it isn’t I wouldn’t be paying £80 for that!Barry_Chuckle wrote:£80 for a old shirt which has been washed too many times
Re: Classic Burnley Umbro kit
Great shirt but would look so much better with a sponsor, preferably a far eat betting company.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Anyone know when this kit is from? Guessing 1979-80ish?
