Re: IBS
It's vile..... I suffered for many years until a lady at Holland and Barratt recommended pure Aloe Vera juice which is a natural anti inflammatory. It works like a miracle for me but it may not work for you. I tried everything on the counter before I found this. It tastes horrid but who cares if it works. Buscopan is also helpful for the spasms.

It affects everyone differently, you need to work out what triggers it first before you can start trying remedies etc.

Re: IBS
I know someone who does have it and it’s no joke it’s changed his life completely for the worst as he can hardly eat any solids without them passing straight through his system.
He picked it up years ago after he had been abroad but hasn’t been diagnosed as to what caused it or how he can improve or get rid of it.
A dreadful illness.

Oil of peppermint. Specially coated capsules to pass into the intestines and dissolve. Widely believed to help IBS in some people.

If it doesn’t get any better make sure that you press your doctor. I was diagnosed with ibs by my gp but subsequently found out it was stage 3c small bowel cancer. Be persistent!

Mine went away, Steve, (fingers crossed) but I couldn't swear it was the oil of peppermint.
My quack said it often just disappears.

Re: IBS
I developed it as I got into my 20's, runs in the family as my dad and grandma have it. I've made changes to my lifestyle that have helped: eat a lot healthier, exercise fairly regularly and cut down on alcohol. Alcohol was the worst cause for me. Stress also causes it to flair up. My wife gave birth to our first child two weeks ago which is a fairly stressful event and for 2 days I was crippled with it ( diet and exercise had understandably slipped as well)

Re: IBS
You may be right with IBS, but not IBD mate. Diet can be used to control IBS, but not IBD - IBD is a disease, juicing in fact can be seriously bad for someone with IBD due to the massive amount of fibre intake.Vegas Claret wrote:any person that suffers from anything like IBS, auto-immune diseases etc needs to have a look into juicing (especially celery) - Game changer
Steve - look up FODMAP - it’s a process used to identify food types that affect people with bowel issues, speak to your doctor about having a colonoscopy to rule out other more serious causes (IBD) as these can only be diagnosed with biopsies.

Re: IBS
A lot of anecdotal evidence that low carbohydrate diets such as keto help greatly with IBS
https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/benefits/ibs" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
As others have mentioned IBS is an inflammation, so things that help reduce inflammation should help. Things like CBD oil, fish oils and Turmeric all do this.

Funnily (or not) enough I've just started suffering with it again. Had it for years and then it stopped about 5 years ago but it came back a few days ago. No idea why. Nothing has changed with me diet wise etc.

Not looked it up yet BUT you do realise that juicing takes out all the insoluble fibre and leaves you with the soluble - it's the entire point !Rick_Muller wrote:You may be right with IBS, but not IBD mate. Re: IBS
Cheers Vegas, I actually didn’t know that. However from experience, juicing does not work for my IBD - I tried and it made me very ill, I’d assumed it was the insoluble fibre but it must have been something else. The bottom line is that there are no cures for IBD, yet IBS can be affected by diet changes and environmental factors etcVegas Claret wrote:Not looked it up yet BUT you do realise that juicing takes out all the insoluble fibre and leaves you with the soluble - it's the entire point !

Weirdly my ex wife wasn't obese, unfit or had a poor diet and still had it.pushpinpussy wrote:it is linked with being obese, unfit and a poor diet.
She then had other things like Coeliac's etc.
Turned out it was hormonal with her because when she had a full hysterectomy at 29 all her food intolerances disappeared.

Rick, watch this and then do follow up research on the Gerson theory. I have severe Chrons and juicing has made a massive difference to me, you can cure your ibd 100% no doubt whatsoeverRick_Muller wrote:Cheers Vegas, I actually didn’t know that. Re: IBS
I don't doubt you have Crohns, but you must know that there is no known cause and as such no known cure for IBD. I have seen that video before, and my experience with people who promote juicing is that they want to sell you a "cure" when there actually isn't one.Vegas Claret wrote:Rick, watch this and then do follow up research on the Gerson theory. I am glad that juicing works for you, it didn't for me - I have UC though and not Crohns and the only thing keeping me from bowel removal at the moment is effectively chemotherapy using biologic infusions. Of course for me, bowel removal could be classed as a "cure", but not for you.

Re: IBS
do some research on the Gerson theory, Chrons nearly killed me in 2012 and juicing has helped me a lot (not cured but I've not been doing the juicing long enough tbh). There are THOUSANDS of people that have completely cured UC (and worse) going the juicing route, not saying it will work for you (or me) but if like me you've been pumped with every drug known to man then it's worth a try imho - either way, good luck, auto-immune diseases are horrificRick_Muller wrote:I don't doubt you have Crohns, but you must know that there is no known cause and as such no known cure for IBD. Not read through the thread so I am sorry if this is repeated but try peppermint tea, really helps me out
Re: IBS
I had IBS diagnosed in 1991 ...had a long bout in same year and spent time in hospital ...had more bouts over the next several years whilst trying the peppermint aloe diet change routines along with all the buscopan etc tablets ...turned out i had diverticulitus ...similar symptoms but not the same ....since then i have become probably the worlds best self medicator ,,,,,any sign stop all food for a few days and drink loads of liquids (non alcoholic) ..keep off anti biotics ..then after a few days take lots of the five a day stuff and a omaprizole capsule every now and then ......my doc now asks me for advice ...i tell him i watch the 2009 champioship play off final and i feel great !!! just read this back ....what a ramble !

Re: IBS
This can be a real bind. When mine comes on its always a dragging ache in the bottom left hand quadrant which can last for days .Not much will shift it but I do get some relief from Buscopan...get your doctor to prescribe you some...mine prescribed 2 tablets 4 times a day so I know what to do when it starts up .Pain down there is a classic bowel cancer syndrome and I've had two colonoscopies..both clear apart from polyps and my specialist described it as a type of long-lasting cramp.I'm retired now and live a much less stressful existence and I've had far fewer episodes since I stopped running my own business .I also found that a couple of pints seemed to help me but that might not apply to everybody .I sympathise with you.

Does anyone get sharp chest pain sporadically when suffering with IBS. I don't think it's acid. But I do get chest pain near my sternum. I have to arch my back and crack my chest for it to go.
