The new season predicted by AI

Post by Stan Tastic » Tue Jul 30, 2019 4:16 pm

A miracle escape will leave Sean Dyche breathing a huge sigh of relief after Burnley spend nine of the last 15 weeks of the season rock-bottom of the table. It won't be too entertaining either with only Arsenal conceding fewer goals than Burnley (51) from those teams outside the top four.
Things get much worse at the other end of the pitch though because only four teams in history will have scored fewer goals than Burnley, who are destined to end up on (31) without being relegated.
An eight-game unbeaten run at the end of the season saves the day – including a plucky draw at Anfield against title-chasing Liverpool.

Great idea to do it 9 days before the transfer window closes, not to mention no knowledge of what's going to happen in the January window.

TBH without strengthening midfield that prediction is very much the way I'm seeing it too. With a serious midfield signing (or two) it could well be a whole different story.

All's well that ends well but it could be a long, hard winter!

I'll take staying up all day long, even on goal difference, but my nerves might be totally shot to pieces!!!

Let's all rinse and repeat.

Supporters complain about a poor transfer window.
We are going to struggle as a result
We have some good results during the season
Wed have some bad results during the season
We stop up with a few games to spare

That's how it'll most likely end up and we are certainly not going to finish on 31 points!

We'll score plenty with Wood, McNeil, Barnes and Jay. If we can repeat the second half of last season we'll be absolutely fine.

I think we should keep coming back to this table through the season.

I actually think you're dead right and I also think we'll be good defensively, but without the much heralded upgrade in midfield I'm not sure either will be enough.

A lot is being said about midfield and yes, we probably need another body. But from when Heaton and McNeil came in on Boxing Day, we were the 5th best team in the league and we had the exact same players as we do now - plus Jay.

You're spot on, but there were still some poor showings during that good post Christmas run (Newcastle away, Goodison) and it was the midfield which looked below par. I'm not picking on him, but Cork got visibly slower and slower as a long hard season wore on and I'm concerned where that will leave him during this one.

If you think we'll score plenty and be good defensively, what the hell are you worried about?

How accurate was last season's AI prediction, assuming there was one.

I think who evercwrote the article saying Burnley finish on 31 points and not get relegated, should re-read the League table which clearly shows 37 points

Goodison?

We were safe by then and McNeil and Hendrick didn't start, so it shouldn't be used alongside the Newcastle game

I think my worry is that without an upgrade in CM we might not get both things firing in the same game!! ;)

The Automated Robotic Score Engine says we will finish above Brighton and Newcastle and Villa and will see 2 of the 3 promoted teams relegated. Sheff Utd and Norwich being the likely 2.

The ARSE has as much reliability of outcomes at this stage of the season as that AI predictions

They should've waited until after the transfer window closed, a couple of ins and outs could make a big difference at some clubs

Eg if Zaha leaves Palace: top 2 scorers last season were Milivojevic with 12 (10 of them pens- a fair few "won" by Zaha) + Zaha with 10. Even with a big pile of dosh for his sale- they cant replace that and may find it difficult to reach the 12th they got last season let alone 10th shown here.

Newcastle, where Westwood was ill and couldn't play. Everybody knows without Westy the midfield is below par.

I would think most of us could predict that League table, with maybe a few tweaks here and there. It's very likely to be not far off..

I had the season panning out pretty much the same except we score a late winner at Anfield. Time will tell whether the AI predicts better than me!

How many people would take 37 points now with a minus 20 GD?
You're very unlucky to get relegated with more than 36 points especially if you've a decent goal difference.
I'm certainly agreeing with the projected table in that I'll be very surprised if either Norwich or Sheff U get more than 36 points.

Phew! And there was me thinking we were stretched in midfield and had no back ups, and planned to sign none too....... :?
