Re: Heats
Absolutely brilliant buisness if true.
For Villa.
They get an absolutely top class keeper at the peak of his powers for a fraction of what they'd pay for similiar quality elsewhere.
There's a reason that Heaton is in demand and we cant shift Hart.

Re: Heats
Couple of observations.
Joe Hart really isn’t as bad as some on here are suggesting.
I think we will likely end up with Pope, Hart and Peacock-Farrell from Leeds who could be the next off our keeper conveyor belt.
Also, if you refer to Hart with names such as “head and shoulders” you really do need to grow up.

Re: Heats
If the extent of our transfer window is buying Rodriguez and Pieters and selling our captain, then that's another very poor window indeed. However, I understand if Heaton wants to go (albeit I don't like the idea of selling to a relegation rival). Fingers crossed we can improve the first team before the window closes.

Nixon is about as reliable as Steven Defours fitness . He’s a flouncing tart who simply scans the net for any info and uses a dartboard modus . It’s out there in the public domain and it would be a great shame if we lost TH but villa have money to spend and Heats on likely his last good context

I’ll say it now, and you are welcome to ridicule me next year if I’m wrong and I really look forward to ridicule as it will mean we’re still in the top flight.
If we sell Heaton to Villa they will stay up and we will go down.
Heaton is the glue that binds the defensive unit and if he goes he will do that for Villa instead of us. Pope being injured is a worry, and if that means Hart starts, then we’re in the same situation as last season where it will take a massive hit before SD puts Pope back in when he’s fit. Pope has proved he is a worthy replacement for Heaton, and if he starts the season for us we may be OK.
Selling Heaton to Villa will be a massive mistake.

He doesn't want to be here any more. That's the end of it. Everything else is irrelevant. Doesn't matter who the best keeper is, how much he's worth or whether he's your second favourite player after Ben Mee.
It should be a privelidge to play for my team, if you disrespect that then I am glad you will do so no longer. It takes far longer to build legend status than it does to destroy it (see Danny Ings).

No he’s not, but I also don’t think it’s a coincidence that we were largely horrendous right up until he was dropped and almost instantaneously turned our fortunes around once Heaton was re-installed to the team.arise_sir_charge wrote:Couple of observations.

Peacock-Farrell isn’t the immediate answer. He’s a young keeper who struggled last season and can’t get a game in a team playing a division below us.
If we can’t get Pope fit for a sustained period it’s a big problem.

Joe Hart should not be at the club, let him go.
He is a long way short of being the leader that Heaton is. This could be a really big setback just as the season is about to kick off.
A major backward step.
Gutted.

Re: Heats
It’s not so much losing him in our team, it’s the massive effect he is likely to have for one of our rivals for relegation. We should let him leave for free next season if he won’t sign a new contract. He is contracted to us for another year, we make him honour that. £10M or even £20M is nothing compared to increasing the risk of losing the golden goose because you strengthened a rival teamBlyclaret wrote:Ok so its a massive mistake.

I hope Hart doesn't start purely based of level of shite that is posted on here and spouted by fans. UTC posters become goalkeeping experts and will scrutinise his every move. Anything decent he does will be overlooked or just seen as routine.
Perhaps the players won't play as badly this season if City aren't paying Hart's wages.
Some are clearly struggling to come to terms with the thought that Heaton actually wants to leave.

On a serious point 33 is no age for a keeper. He’s the no2 England keeper and the no1 keeper went for £30m a couple of years ago and the no3 keeper is being valued at £25m.
Heaton is worth a lot more to Burnley than £8m. For me I would prefer him to stay, try and offer him what he wants and if he still prefers to leave in a year let him walk on a free.
I know that the problem with this is if he wants to go now there is little we can do - other than play hard ball with Villa and insist on at least £15m.

Best keeper at the club and captain. No coincidence our upturn in form was when he got back in the team. I get the argument he’s 33 but think this is a bad bit of business especially selling to a rival.

Re: Heats
Must say that if this is true, I find it a bit odd. As always, the unknown is what is happening behind closed doors and it's always possible that Heaton has made it clear that he wants to leave, at which point the problem becomes ours. However, even allowing for that, it seems a bit surprising that we are willing to allow such a key figure within the squad to leave for a direct rival for what is a relatively modest fee (even if there's a point that even for a goalkeeper, it's good money for a 33 year old).
I'm a big believer that it's crucial for clubs like Burnley to keep at the heart of the squad a core of players who were around at the beginning of the project and in setting the squad's values in the first place. Heaton and Mee are the last of the "originals", and I fear that when Heaton leaves, we lose some of our roots. At 33, I'd have hoped we'd keep those roots for 2-3 years yet.

Let's just hope that our coaching staff have made Hart into a decent keeper, I've seen nothing so far to suggest it, but there has to be some logic at the club, Hart has looked far less of a keeper than Heaton.

The other bizarre part of this is selling while Pope is injured.
Re: Heats
If he won't sign then it's good for us all, just wish we hadn't given him so many minutes in pre-season if we knew he wanted out.
When. All said and done tho, thank you Tom you have been an excellent signing and player for our club, best of luck in the future apart from when we play you and you have a stinker and we score 6

Re: Heats
Yes I agree with a lot of that from a Burnley fans point of view, but in all honesty, there would be a complete meltdown on this board if we were buying a 33 year old who had been injured for a large part of the previous season. On a serious point 33 is no age for a keeper. He’s the no2 England keeper and the no1 keeper went for £30m a couple of years ago and the no3 keeper is being valued at £25m.

I was surprised at how quickly Tom moaned in the press after being dropped last season and that will have been noted! A lot of this is down to how SD feels Tom will rock the boat if not picked and the boss has shown before that if a player want's to leave for more game time, he will do his best to help them move on.
If Tom was the only decent keeper on the books I would say it was crazy to sell him but with everything considered, it looks nothing but fianacial sense to me. A player is only worth what teams are willing to pay and it's pointless anyone saying he's worth 15m, because I can guarantee, no clubs board are going to sanction paying anywhere near that for a player of his age.

I cannot believe Joe Hart will start another league game for us, what a mess. Not because he is terrible, but because he is clearly third choice for us, we should not be having to start him against Southampton.
I defend the board to a hilt but if they have pound signs in their eyes because he is 33 it's a seriously bad decision, purely because of Pope's lack of fitness.
If Pope was fit right now, I genuinely wouldn't mind this transfer - but he is.

Re: Heats
This is just bonkers.
We don't need £8m to survive and to practically gift a rival 6-9 points is crazy.
If he wants to leave then fine, let him go for nothing at the end of the season, he has served us so very well and I wouldn't begrudge him a freebie.
But to sell to a rival....??
Also people talking about him demanding a move, I can't see that or his captaincy would have been stripped if we believe in what Dyche's strong management skills are rumoured to be like.
He won't even be guaranteed a start at Villa!!!
This transfer really doesn't make sense to me.

Re: Heats
Sell Hart if Heaton goes and pool the money to buy a first class keeper.
Re: Heats
Hes 33, OOC in 11 months, wont sign a new deal, wants to go and we still have Pope & Hart to scrap for the number 1 spot.
I think if Pope is fit and can perform anything like 2017, he's better than Heaton anyway, with the added bonus of him being here for 5 years and still only 26. I think it's a clear sign of the what direction we want to go in.
Also it'll be 40k off the wage bill, plus the 8m+ fee ( looking at 12m over a season, we could put that to towards some seriously quality. It could just be that little extra finance to pull a deal or 2 over the line and improve the team in a different way.
We all need closure soon, and most of all we need to do what's right for the club AND Tom, he wants to move, we would be foolish and unfair to stand in his way.
He's been a great servant, who has probably not cost us anything if we get around 10m for him.
Thank you, and good luck Tom

Thank you very much Tom. You will be missed.
I am in the “Hart - what a waste of space camp”. Not a fan whatsoever + hoping Pope is back fit for a week on Saturday otherwise as mentioned by a few posters already on here we could be back in the mire again by Boxing Day.

I just hope that Pope's injury is as minor as SD says. I'll feel a lot better if he gets the full 90 on Saturday.

I knew yesterday that it was his last game with us. As Heaton applauded the stand, I took my binoculars out. I witnessed a solitary tear run down his cheek. I'm very good at lip-reading and he clearly muttered the words "Come on Tom Heaton, pull yourself together man."

Simply offer him the length of contract that villa are doing, I'm guessing they are offering 3 as opposed to our 2 years, Tom is a proven keeper and a very important member of the team, as was said earlier in the thread he is what binds the defence together and they are confident with him behind them, he's a very vocal captain that we should be keeping at all costs, he has at least 2 years in him, and would be a very able back up in he's 3rd year, massive mistake in my opinion. Yes pope is a great replacement but we're in exactly same position as last year, he's injured, so it wouldn't surprise me to be starting with Hart, massive mistake!!Blyclaret wrote:Ok so its a massive mistake.
