Being a captain is mostly about being a leader on the pitch than off it. Otherwise the likes of Roy Keane or Patrick Vieira would never have been good captains.

You need someone who is respected and isn't afraid to give others a bollocking when things go wrong.

The only player who I think has the personality on the pitch to do that for us in Bardsley... Maybe Hart but I think most want Pope to be No1.

The other guys just aren't great captain material.

Ben Mee gives his all but is virtually silent in games. He doesn't have the concentration to get through a game without making a mistake even when he's not captain.. And frankly he's to nice.

Barnes is too hot headed and whilst he has lots of guile, lacks intelligence.

Westwood has intelligence but lacks aggression.

None of these are really great tacticians either which doesn't help.

We need a Joey Barton type figure on the pitch or I fear we'll be in trouble next year.

I’d guess Barnes gets more red cards than Bardsley.

But it highlights how much we are lacking a leader in the centre of the park.

Being hot headed isn't the problem, it's being able to manage it that counts.

Mee for me.

When watching the top ten Tom Heaton saves it was interesting to see how many times Ben was on hand to deal with the parried saves. When Heaton conceded playing for England it was a result of a parry and non of the defenders reacted.

You can see leadership on the pitch. There are those that step up under pressure and those that shy away. We have a few people in our team I would consider a leader in those circumstances.

For me personally mainly Westwood after last season, but Mee, Tarks, Barnes all seem to have those qualities.
