New or old Transfer window?
Which do you prefer? The new way where we have 2 transfer windows or the old system of being able to buy anybody throughout the season up until a cut off date which if I recall used to be about 8 or 10 games until the end of the season.
Personally prefer the old way

Imagine how quiet this board would be without those posters who think everything regarding transfers and personnel are solely at the feet of either Joe Hart and/or the board!

The almost berserker levels of frenzy the current system creates is nonsense and serves SKY not the league. Managers used to be able to identify a problem, and fix it... or MANAGE.
It would considerably reduce the amounts being demanded... and would help the struggling clubs in the league.
If they want windows, make it for international transfers, not domestic transfers.... that way the big clubs are incentivised to keep football pyramid of our leagues both viable and competitive.

Old way for me too.
The introduction of the windows was completely media driven in order to try to make a drama out of something which is really quite mundane.
The problem is that so many fans just buy into it and this helps the Sky machine to over-dramatise the whole thing.

Also how a struggling club are not able to cash in on a player throughout the season to say pay wages of the others is ridiculous.

Re: New or old Transfer window?
The other thing that I have always wondered since this was introduced is how no player has took the leagues to court like Bosman. But in relation to freedom of movement and being held at a club against their will. I know I may have expressed it a bit over the top but would hope you get what I mean. Lets say Wells didnt get a move and was stuck in our reserves with zero chance of playing and a club came in and said we will play you. He wouldnt be allowed at present because of the new system and is in a way being held hostage by the club. Like I say shocked no player has challenged it yet....unless they have and I have missed it

A complete new way.
It should be 24 hours long and this board should be closed for that period.

Re: New or old Transfer window?
Nobody is held against their will they are registered and playing for a club under a contract they agreed. Bosman took away the restrictions at the end of a contract, and free agents can still sign for clubs outside the transfer window as long as the new club is able to register them.Cleveleys_claret wrote:The other thing that I have always wondered since this was introduced is how no player has took the leagues to court like Bosman. Re: New or old Transfer window?
Yes but if you work for a company you can always give notice. Surely the employment laws shouldnt change just because its a sport. I understand fees may have to be paid and so on. Just shocked no one hasnt challenged the window as in no other walk of life regards employment is this usedReckoner wrote:Nobody is held against their will they are registered and playing for a club under a contract they agreed. Re: New or old Transfer window?
There are lots of employment related contracts that have restrictive covenants that continue past the notice period, its a balance of what is reasonable. Not allowing a player to just walk to another club if he's not playing during the term of his contract is reasonable - although it is managed in effect by registrations held by the club.
