Not good news concerning Jimmy  ,Stokes has bowled poorly in the second hour as well, putting a lot of onus on Broad and Woakes in the afternoon session.

And the sun's come out now also, should be easier for batting as the ball gets older, can't help feel England didn't take advantage when we had them 35-3.

And why the heck did we include Moeen on a seamer's paradise,if Australia can get anything over 250,they'll be confident of putting England's fragile top order under severe pressure, and with England batting 4th,Lyon will become a danger if England are chasing any kind of target.

50 partnership now between these two.Need a wicket soon.

.
Yep. Moeen will need to score some runs in this test in order to justify his selection, because Curran would have been more useful in these conditions, and would have been an insurance policy in the seam dept. given that Anderson hasn't played for weeks.

Thought we'd got Smith then, the blighter survives on review.

Got Wade though 105-5,Woakes strikes again. :) another review, the umpire's are having a mare.

Nobody will be :o if this test is over by day 3,because i can't see England faring much better in these bowler friendly conditions.

6 down. Broad gets Paine caught at deep square leg. Aussie batting doesn't look great, but England bowling well in the conditions.

154-8 at tea,bit of nuisance this Smith/Siddle partnership, they've already added 32,could do with wrapping their innings up ASAP,the rain's arrived which will likely mean a delay, don't know if that's good or bad for England, looking on the bright side at least the bowlers will be able to put their feet up for an hour, just imagine where this Aussie team would be without Steve Smith,of course until both sides have a bat in their hand you can never truly judge the pitch or the score.

Broad and Woakes carrying their Lord's form into this game, but Smith has shown England's batsman that if you hang in and fight, you can make runs on this wicket, let's hope they're taking note.

Aussies making it look pretty easy at the moment. I don’t agree with setting the field deep to give them runs.

Seeing the number ten look comfortable should give our batters some confidence though. Gritty customer is Siddle.

Bloody hell Buxton i thought we'd taken a wicket when i saw someone posting on this thread, you're damn right this pair are becoming a problem now, every run is vital i can see this being a squeaky bummer.

Important we dismiss them for under 200,if they can nudge past that they'll feel they've got out of jail, remember they were 120-8 and staring down the barrel.

I'm a bit disappointed we haven't bowled them out in under 50 overs, given what we had them at.

Credit to Smith he's played well to get his 100,but the last 2 wickets shouldn't be doubling the score on this track, this is where Jimmy is missed he usually sweeps up 9,10,jack.

Mixed reception for Sandpaper Smith i notice,he's still got some way to go to redemption just yet.

Looks like they're going be around 250,considering the trouble they were in a few hours ago, they've got a par score for Edgbaston.

The worry for England is Broad and Woakes apart the bowling's been ordinary.

I can see Siddle proving a handful on this surface,to back up Cummins and Pattinson.

Superb innings from Smith. First time I’ve ever heard booing and derogatory chanting when a player has got 100 in a test match though.

Current BBC commentary team....

"I sure wouldn't like to bat here, going to be a tricky few overs"
......
"Why aren't they even trying to get Smith out?"

Yeah, I wonder...

Need to get to the close without losing a wicket or we’re in big trouble.

Edit: there’s only two overs; thought there’d be more.

Sorry, but there was some bloody awful captaincy out there today.
The day started so well too.
In all the years I've watched the Ashes, I've learned one thing.
If you have the Aussies down, keep 'em there.
