A message from Tom Heaton
Tom Heaton has sent the following message which the club have published.
To the Chairman, the gaffer, Billy Mercer and every single member of staff at Burnley Football Club, I would like to say a massive thank you for the past six years.
To the current playing squad and all the previous players I’ve played with, there have been many special moments, all of which I am proud to have been a part of.
Captaining the club has been a huge honour for me.
To the supporters, I’m so very grateful for the incredible support I have received since the day I arrived at Turf Moor, never more so than the reception walking out against West Ham last season.
I will remember that moment for a long time.
It’s been some journey and I wish everyone connected with the club all the very best.
Thank you.

That West Ham moment and those words do hold the same sentiment to me and a shiver down the spine. Also I wont forget in the away end against UTD he was one of us and knew all the songs and joined in, and then had pictures with everyone at half time. What a captain, player and damn fine bloke. All the best Tom you will definitely always be a Claret, and when the time is right come and show our youth how its done as a coach.

Re: A message from Tom Heaton
A top bloke and a top professional. He will be missed, and is by some distance the best keeper I've seen in a Burnley shirt since I started watching the clarets. That save at Old Trafford alone is worth icon status.
But we move on, and I hope (without compromising us) Tom is successful at Villa. He deserves it. We plucked him from Bristol when at the time, it seemed like a signing no one was too excited about. Lets hope this kid from Leeds has even half the impact Heaton has had.

The West Ham moment was immense - you could feel the energy flowing from the crowd to Tom, and he lapped it all up and didn't look back last season.

Tom ranks alongside Alan Stevenson as the best keeper in my 50+ years watching the Clarets.
I can't pay him an higher compliment, just superb.

It's nothing we all didnt already know, but just shows what a top bloke Tom Heaton is both on and off the field.
Footballers often get some stick for their behaviour ( and a lot of the time its justified ) but this guy, not just because of this, but his actions all the time whilst at our club, restores my faith that there are some good ones out there.

Great words, great keeper and a brilliant man! You’ll be missed, all the best at Villa but not against us of course! “You’ll always be a claret!!”
Re: A message from Tom Heaton
The West Ham reception was on a par with the reception Alan Stevenson got when we played Rotherham away and Stevo was in goal for them after he left us

For sure he will be remembered for the right reasons, but to leave in this manner doesn’t sit right. He could have signed a new contract and stayed. He’s earned enough for two lifetimes, and villa compared to Burnley? Shut the front door.Bibblebobble wrote:Yet he wanted to leave!! Great keeper. Intrested to know why he was so desperate to leave?
The only loyalty in football is the fan to the club, fed up of hearing about millionaires leaving for one last big pay day. He’s gone, he’s forgotten.

You can just say more money you know (like Jason Shackell to Derby), you don't have to add bits. He would have got first team football here and Villa are hardly much bigger in present stature and in terms of possible achievements this season.Quicknick wrote:For first team football and more money at a MUCH bigger club. The message is hardly Michael Keane leaving message proportion either.

In a game where there is so much money about these days it’s a very rare that a former player has the integrity to say that about his former club and there supporters, so a very well done to Tom.

Re: A message from Tom Heaton
From all accounts Tom is a quality individual, not easy to find in today’s ‘oh look at me, aren’t I wonderful?’ world of overpaid footy players! Tom did what he had to do in order to play PL games week in, week out and satisfy his financial needs, I’m sure the club wish him well. The writing was on the wall when Pope signed his long term deal. Tom will be remembered as a stalwart who marshalled our usually stingy defence to regularly overachieve.
Good luck Tom.
Good luck Tom.

It's rare that a club takes a League 1 goalkeeper on a free transfer, and turns him into an England international goalkeeper.

Re: A message from Tom Heaton
My 8 year old son, Jacob, has met Tom on countless occasions and was lucky enough to walk out with him as mascot at our game away at Bournemouth last season. His prized possession is a pair of Tom’s gloves from that very match, signed by him, but he also has one of his shirts that I was hoping to get signed this weekend by him.......but sadly not.
Jacob is away at his Nana’s at the moment but she has just face timed me, with him in her arms, sobbing his heart out because he can’t sleep - he’s too distraught that his favourite player has left.
He’ll get used to it I’m sure, but that really does just show the enormous influence Tom had on, but especially off, the pitch. He’s Jacob’s hero and I don’t mind admitting, I thought the world of him too.
We’ll move on but having seen Jacob’s reaction, I’m a little more gutted than I was.
Good luck Tom and I hope I see you soon and manage to get your signature one last time on the shirt. Thanks for everything you’ve done.

Thanks Tom for a gracious statement. Time stops for no-one and you have done what is right for you and your family. If you can create better memories than you already have, fair enough. You will always be a claret, so on that basis a couple in through your legs wouldn't be too much to ask.

I agree with Heathclaret. Heatons comments are a bit weasel words for me. Just wait for the usual bullshit...Oh I'm so glad to be at Villa, I've always thought what a fantastic club, I'd spoken to so and so about it and he said it is heaven on earth etc etc. Actions speak louder than words and he left us.
