Don't know about Joel Mumbongo but this lad was the one I have seen play in the under-23s and didn't know who he was other than his first name being Adam.

Presumably we’ve had to sign someone with two first names to balance out the Bailey Peacock Farrell signing (assuming it happens).

We never sign young players.

Clear and definite strategy. Rigg's work is starting to come to fruition.martin_p wrote:Presumably we’ve had to sign someone with two first names to balance out the Bailey Peacock Farrell signing (assuming it happens).
Just need a Brazilian player with a single first name (a "Fred" type player) and proper balance is restored.

We once had a manager called Stan, does that count?Rowls wrote:Just need a Brazilian player with a single first name (a "Fred" type player) and proper balance is restored.

Great work from Mr Rigg. Good to see the hard work been rewarded

And one referred to as 'Horseface' if memory serves.....does that upset the balance again?ClaretTony wrote:We once had a manager called Stan, does that count?

Brilliant!!!! Maybe we should keep referring to this lad as Adam. Not many will be any the wiser and think we are bringing in young south americans for the futureRowls wrote:Clear and definite strategy. Rigg's work is starting to come to fruition.

Is the GK we had on trial from Norwich still here. May help knowing a mate is already in getting his signature. That is unless I have missed something and he has left or already signedClaretTony wrote:Don't know about Joel Mumbongo but this lad was the one I have seen play in the under-23s and didn't know who he was other than his first name being Adam.

Re: ARTICLE: Adam Phillips joins Burnley
Signing young lads released by the likes of Man U, City and Liverpool for example seems like a decent strategy and we clearly look a more than decent option right now to talented youngsters who may have been prematurely discarded, but certain ones seem to have been around quite a while and have been let go by clubs who are (arguably) lower down the pecking order than us, so I'm not sure about this one. Hope it works out though.

I think it is much better making a judgement on a player based on how he plays rather than which club he played for previously.Dark Cloud wrote:Signing young lads released by the likes of Man U, City and Liverpool for example seems like a decent strategy and we clearly look a more than decent option right now to talented youngsters who may have been prematurely discarded, but certain ones seem to have been around quite a while and have been let go by clubs who are (arguably) lower down the pecking order than us, so I'm not sure about this one. Re: ARTICLE: Adam Phillips joins Burnley
From the bits and bobs I've quickly pieced together, never seen the lad.Dodobdobodobo wrote:What type of midfielder is he Tony?
He was a highly regarded talent at Liverpool, making 2 appearances for England U16's in 2013 and 3 appearances for the U17's in 2014. His progress was stalled by two stress fractures of the back in 16/17 ( not uncommon in young athletes ).
After being released from Liverpool he signed a 2 year contract with Norwich. He went out on a loan to Cambridge, playing four games for them, until a change in manager and in form players relegated him to the bench. After that he went out on a season long loan to Hamilton, which was cut short after 2 matches and six weeks. Norwich released him by mutual consent.
21 years old, ball playing midfielder with a good range of passing and the ability to take free kicks.
Welcome to the club Adam, enjoy your time with us and work hard.

Or if you're abc or one of his aliases then you don't need to watch him to know what sort of player he is.ClaretTony wrote:I think it is much better making a judgement on a player based on how he plays rather than which club he played for previously.

I gave a factual account of his career history to date. Talented player by all accounts who suffered a couple of setbacks, through no fault of his own. We have given him a chance and if he capitalises on his ability he could develop into a good player in a position we need.
Could we use a quality ball playing midfielder - yes
Might his arrival free up Benson to go out on loan - possibly

Re: ARTICLE: Adam Phillips joins Burnley
I take your point CT and I genuinely hope he proves to be a really good signing. I also do think there's plenty of mileage in our current strategy of looking to pick up late developers and talented youngsters who can't make headway at the "massive" clubs. (The likes of Jimmy Dunn for example). I was just a little surprised to see that this guy was a bit older and had been let go more than once, but on the other hand someone at the club must feel there is still potential to be tapped. So good luck to the lad.ClaretTony wrote:I think it is much better making a judgement on a player based on how he plays rather than which club he played for previously.

Re: ARTICLE: Adam Phillips joins Burnley
And they've worked with him for the last five weeks in pre-season so those making the decisions will have got to know him both on and off the field during that time.Dark Cloud wrote:I take your point CT and I genuinely hope he proves to be a really good signing.
