Much better than the cricket too. But that doesn't say a lot. Reading my cornflakes box would have been better than that.

Re: Bob Lord books update
We went over to the club shop earlier this week and couldn't wait to buy the book. Only a quarter way through - if you know Burnley that well, from the descriptions, you can almost visualise what it must have been like in the Burnley Wood area just after the first world war! (By the way, my brother and his wife were married in St Matthew's church, er, not just after the first world war ).
Very quickly I shot to the back of the book and went through the Index, basically to see what was in the book. At the bottom of page 382, it shows Lowerhouse Factory and Lowerhouse Land but I was looking specifically for Lowerhouse cricket club. No mention.
I can just remember either late 1960s/early 1970s when Bob Lord agreed to become chairman of Lowerhouse CC. The club was going through a very rough financial period (?in debt with the brewery?) and he was brought in the 'steady the ship'. It worked. That is when I saw at first hand how he dealt with belligerent people, him not backing down and pretending not to hear, blaming his hearing aids!! If this period is in the book and I've missed it, sincere apologies.

Re: Bob Lord books update
Just finished reading this tonight. It's one of those books that I could have devoured a lot quicker, but made myself put it down every so often ! Excellent read , especially the last few chapters which made me feel quite emotional.
Thankyou,
Jackie
