First Saturday match of the season and the 17.38 train back to Rochdale and Manchester Victoria cancelled. Northern Rail is a joke.

No it’s not, I have many other worries in life but Northern Rail just adds to them. Having waited an hour for the next train, they have just announced it is delayed due to congestion even though the one before was cancelled !! Last season this kind of disruption was happening on a regular basis.

Trains in general are annoying. What's the next available train after that?

Our rail service is a ******* joke. But until we vote for change we're never going to get a good rail service.

The next train would be an hour later but the delayed one should be here shortly so I will only be about an hour and 20mins late .... again !!

I think it's fair to say the poster has the right to expect to get home.

How they are still allowed to operate the services is unbelievable. If it was down south there would be hell to pay and they would have been ousted by now

I got the 22:40 back from Manchester Victoria to Accrington tonight which thankfully was one of the few running.

The two before it to Bolton and and Blackburn had both been cancelled and there were delays right, left and centre.

No need to be so specific. The word "post" is totally unnecessary.

If your only way to channel your arseholeness is to clickbait a fellow poster then I’d be embarrassed.

I honestly don’t rely on trains anymore unless I have an overnight stay and a couple of days spare to make sure I’m not in a rush to get home. Worse than pathetic our northern network... it isn’t just NR, but they are in the top 3 nationally without doubt.

The route that gets cancelled the most is Southport to Blackburn, which goes through Manchester Victoria and Burnley Manchester Road; it’s due to lack of drivers. The Leeds to Blackpool route is prioritised more, so you should be ok going to and from Leeds...maybe!

Chris Grayling was Secretary of State for Transport for 3 years from July 2016 to July 2019. Just saying.
