It seems as if he's an integral part of the Leeds team and at 25m plus just can't
see us paying out that sort of money even though we might be able to offer
him more money than he's getting at Leeds.

We seem to be connected with a few other players at present but in competition
with other clubs and we're not normally successful if competing with other clubs
especially if they're from the Premiership.

Would be surprised and disappointed if we didn't get someone in before Thursday
especially in midfield and hope we don't lose Tarkowski to Leicester.
That would be a serious blow.
Totally agree we won't pay 25m or more for a single signing, but i thought that's why we were throwing Vydra in as part exchange if you will,to get the Phillips deal over the line.

It might come down to how much do Leeds want Vydra, and also if they can sort out a replacement for Phillips in the next few days,of course if the likes of Villa are sniffing,it makes our task ten times harder.

I'd be reasonably confident of holding onto Tarks, but the last 24/48 hours of the window can be frantic,so no doubt it'll throw up some surprises, hopefully pleasant surprises not nasty ones.

A bit like every season when the fans aren't invited to participate in the comings and goings

If this doesn't happen it will be because the two clubs can't agree a mutually acceptable fee/deal.

There's no doubt Phillips would want to move if a PL club are interested, be it us or Villa. The two clubs have obviously been in discussion over the summer as we've already signed one of their players.

Phillips has spent his whole career at Leeds so knows there's no guarantee of PL football with them and the thought of a possible relegation battle will be no deterrent either. Worse case scenario he goes to a struggling club but still gets to showcase his talent against the best players week in, week out. It will do his future prospects no harm - see Billing and probably Mooy as recent examples.

Villa may have the potential to outbid us. The link with Phillips goes back to the early summer, amidst the frenzy of incomings there I don't know if he still fulfills a gap in the team/squad they need to address.

Alternatively, Phillips talks to established first-teamers and ex-Leeds players Taylor and Wood and gets an insight into a Burnley side where there's a very strong chance he'll have an integral part to play assuming the long-term unavailability of Defour.

Not saying for one minute this is going to happen (because as we know fee agreement has been something of a sticking point in recent windows) but feel the reasons some are proposing for why it won't are wide of the mark.

I'm not having it that Villa can out bid us.

We've spent relatively cock all for 2.5 seasons now, whilst also receiving decent money for our players.
Not to mention the fact that Villa have already spunked around £130 million in transfers!

Villa have pretty much a bottomless pit of cash with their backers, they could outbid the majority of teams in the PL if they wanted to never mind us !

One of the reasons I won't be too disappointed if Villa do a Fulham ... would feel for Tom H (but thats all )

Vydra plus 5-10m should get this guy I would imagine, that’s if they still want Vydra

Apparently they don’t want vydra , but who knows?

I really can’t see this happening, nice thought and he’s the type we should be targeting, in fact he’s one of love to see playing for us on the Turf

I would say they would be looking for Vydra and £15M and like you said that's if they want Vydra

Why would they want a player who turned them down last year? He was literally in Leeds ready to signed until we swooped in.

We should try and make this happen as he actually looks like what we need, any penny pinching this year and we’ll be treading water again. We’ve got the team pretty much right but midfield obviously needs strengthening and more flair if we can get the right players in.

That's true. For those fans who support Burnley for the football and aren't too bothered about the transfers, it's been unbelievably good for 30 years. But for those fans who live for transfers and see the football as an interlude to fill in time between windows, it's been a pretty dull time.

Bllx - I pressed like instead of home then tried to unlike it and it liked it again. i'm not saying I dont like it it is just that i have not read it to know whether I like it or not?

PS I have read it now and it is alright but probably wouldn't have thought it was that alright to like.

Does a double positive work in the same way as a double negative?

Given that this attracted a couple of negative responses I'm not just going to 'like' it but go out of my way to say that it is well thought out and highly appropriate.

It's also worth adding that the phrase "we suck at transfers" as posted earlier strikes me as .....wel let's just say unjustified and leave it at that.

Especially on the transfer with/without a link as long as it causes an argument' thread.

Charlieinnewmexico feels we should have a rumour league table. Those that contribute spurious claims for 'fun' (Neuhaus, etc etc) should get a suspension from the site.

Having said that , the bloke that saw the wavy haired Spanish full back might have won the league already
