Very good player for us but that was then. He’s playing in the SPL we are in the EPL. I wouldn’t love him back now.

I was talking to a couple of Rangers fans, who were watching their Europa game on Thursday night in the Lounge bar in Benalmadena. They said he was possibly their best player and were delighted to have signed him. Personally, I think we have moved on since Arfield, though he did have some good games for us and scores some great and important goals.

Truly excellent player for us. Part of the fabric of our Club’s recent successes. A nice bloke, too.

Legend often seems an overused term when fans discuss players. But we have several over the last 6 years including Heaton, Boyd, Arfield, Vokes. Not just for their performances on the pitch but in being part of the legacy which they have left behind. The team spirit, the way the club connects with the community have enabled us to grow like none of us ever imagined. Thats why when I look back in 30 years and I tell my kids about legends it will be littered with players of this era

I liked Boyd, but it's stretching it a tad to consider him a legend.

Boyd was an extremely important member of the team, playing a very specific role for Dyche.
He did damned well for us. Anybody not able to understand that must have a pretty shallow understanding of the game.

We have moved on but I would have always liked to see Arfield in the “number 10” position Hendrick was put for a chunk of time, I think Arfield could have excelled there.

Either way, great player for us and now playing well for Rangers.

My opinion. Yes he wasnt the best but he was part of the original blueprint which is what this side has been built on. Hard work, not being about him and more the team. He had the flair as shown early in his career but sacrificed that part of his game to fit into our model. Never gave less than 100%. His stats were unbelievable for km run (marathon man). I know many can say well a headless chicken can run and run but their was so much more to his game.

He certainly did. Not even close to being a club legend though.

Well maybe Legend maybe a bit over the top but when I tell my kids and grandkids of my all time heroes he will be amongst them....if only for his celebration against City.

We are never going to have it as good as we have it now. A few high finishes maybe over the next few seasons and then we are one bad manager away from relegation and obscurity for several years. Garlick and Dyche arent going to be here for ever. That group of players didnt have all the talent but they overchieved. The players we sign now have large price tags and are expected to perform and expectations are put on them. We expect so much from them because of the money we spent on them. That team of free transfers and low cost fees kept performing to a level that nobody thought was possible

Or a different view about football?

I wonder why we were the only ever club to play with a headless chicken who ran and ran? Always 5 yards behind the ball.

Exactly to put Rangers result into perspective, they beat a team that crashed out of Europe to Connah's Quay Nomads this season,CQN'S are a semi-professional outfit,so that sums up the standard of the Scottish Premiership when Kilmarnock can finish 3rd.

the standard up there is generally woeful at best, its a shame too because they genuinely love their football.
The fact remains, it is exceptionally poor standard at club level. It has 2 dominant teams by and large, the inevitable glasgow duo, and that is it.
celtic won 7-0, says it all really. who would even bother to watch up there?

The people who say they would have him back are probably the ones who want Hendrick out.

I played Highland League football when living in Sutherland and like Scotty I was very enthusiastic but like Scotty I was never good enough to play at a higher level in the top superior leagues in England

He and Boyd always ensured we had 2 defenders against prem league wingman. Probably saved us from many a hammering.

Arfield was certainly good enough.

Aye, at least one each time he has a decent game, probably 3 or 4 if Villa are above us in the league.

Who did you play in the Highland League for? Was it Brora or Wick by any chance?
