Sky Sports £11 a month

Post by Inchy » Mon Aug 05, 2019 3:19 pm

A couple of weeks ago I decided to cancel Sky Sports as I no longer watch it that much and found it quite costly.
At first they offered me a discount which I refused and we left it at that.

Today Sky have called me and offered me Sky Sport for £17 a month. I said "no thanks its still too pricey". I was then offered it for £16, which I stated was too much again. The phone call was then ended.

Anyway 10 mins later Sky called back and offer it me for £11 a month for 6 months with free cancelation at any point. I decided to take that deal!

Maybe its the time of year but if you have a spare hour its definitely worth giving them a call and playing the game a bit

Price rise with Virgin Media and somehow the threat to cancel reduces your bill to lower than what you were originally paying.

It's all a massive con.

But they called you, you didn't call them. There's a big difference.
You calling them suggests you want to stay but want a better price. Them calling you repeatedly is them doing the blagging.

True but if you call and cancel now, then wait two weeks you may well have them ringing up blagging.

I have cancelled Sky sports before and gone through with it so they will be aware of that and know I am not just doing it to get a better price, i was going to cancel until i was offered £11 a month, but at that price i will happily keep it.

I guess it's a risk with things like that, and how much you watch Sky Sports.

The football season is starting and they want people signed up, so you probably timed it well. How long is your new contract?

My Sky TV package is current free - I pay nothing for the basic packages (Entertainment I think) on a Sky Q box. It was a sweetener for my Fibre internet provider (Seethelight) so I took them up on it. I've been using Sky Go on my console and connected to my parents Sky for Sky sports, and that works great when I need it (only Burnley games). Sky have been really trying hard to get me to sign up to Sports and movies etc and they have offered them for free for 6 months too just to get me on their accounts, I really dont see the need. I have Netflix and Prime for most content I'm interested in along with catch up services from all the other channel providers.

I say you get the best deals when you really make them realise that you dont need them but choose to have them...

Keep an eye on your bill. They've twice added me to features that I didn't want and never asked for. One was the bit where your number doesn't show up on calls - I don't have a landline, and they added me to the Cinema channels. Ended up me paying over £120 as I just never noticed.

To do that once is a mistake. To do it twice and they've purposely done it, hoping I won't notice. So always check your bill every few months.

Just out of interest, how much are people paying for the full sky package (Entertainment, sports and movies)?

Sorry, meant to include phone and internet.

I moved to TalkTalk for the Internet so it's around £40 for Entertainment and Sport. I cancelled the Cinema package as, like I say, they added me without wanting it.

It's just capitalism. They want your money and they have a product. Some people are willing to pay more for it, some aren't, and some can't.
The company has a responsibility to its shareholders to get as much money out of us as possible, and they've realised that by setting a higher price they'll get more money that was while allowing us to haggle than if they set the price low and allowed no haggling.

This is why i can get broadband and line rental for £24.99 while some people pay the "sticker price" of £54.99 a month for the same service.

I was offered the Q box, but there's no Magic Eye so would mean paying for 2 boxes.

If you are really any sort of football fan you wouldn't have Murdoch stuff anywhere near the house, so serves you right for having been paying through the nose .. no sympathy from me.

I'm currently on 60% off for sky, just ring up to cancel when your 12 months are up, when you are out of contract, you have the power.

I have never understood the attraction of virgins, however in this case its better than daydreaming about the alternative

I pay £70 for all the Sky channels internet and landline with free calls plus £10 for a mobile with free unlimited calls and texts.

Don't know if that's cheap or not.

I found out recently that you can log in to the Sky Sports website using Virgin credentials and stream things live.

We've never had Sky, but because we enjoy our cricket we looked into it and booked it for 4 months starting from the very first day of the cricket world cup until the last day of the Ashes and paid exactly £100 which I thought was a really good deal, especially when you factor in that we can watch any other sports on there including all the footy and other channels too.

Wait until Feb and see what happens then. I'm actually on a rolling contract because it's bizarrely cheaper than renewing until October!

Indeed my point being that If footy fans don’t like the inflated prices for games then boycott the TV Company’s who are behind the funding.

If they put it up I will not renew, been on this deal for 3 years now. If i start my cancellation notice they always ring back with a similar deal.

Forgot to mention have a fire stick now with everything on it for £35 a year, so not really bothered if I have to cancel the sky.

I have Virgin TV Box, landline, broadband(unlimited), two mobile phones ( one unlimited calls and data one Restricted minutes and restricted data)(£50ish/month).
Just been offered all the Sky Sports and Sky Movies added to my Virgin TV box for an extra £7.50/month for 12 months, which I've taken up.

I currently pay £70/month for all the channels, HD, broadband, phoneline and calls although I'm currently in the process of switching to Vodafone for broadband which will bring me down to £55/month in total. Could probably get it cheaper still but I don't feel that's too bad tbh.

So you'll get the Clarkson show? I've only watched it a few times, but Top Gear is now so bad with braincells, it's worth £35 even if that's to avoid it!

Thanks. Is that price on a special deal and does it include Sports and Movies?

I think I’m on my fourth time of doing this with Virgin Media. Every time the price goes up I ring up and they automatically reduce it. It’s daft. You don’t even have to argue the toss or be transferred to someone. Then again, I bet plenty don’t bother with the phone call...
