So for those people criticizing the length of the deal what do you think would have happened if we had turned it down on that basis?

We wouldn't have signed anyone else and in all probability one of Drinkwater's other admirers - Palace, West Ham or Brighton for example might well have stepped in and accepted the same terms from Chelsea.

Bearing in mind some people think letting Tom go to Villa guarantees their survival and condemns us to the drop there's every possibility DD would have ended up strengthening the midfield of another team who might well be considered relegation rivals.

It will probably be for 12 months, Chelsea just being understandably cautious due their embargo and also to see he gets games that will enhance his saleability.

Great signing for us, I’m sure he’ll be intergrated into the 1st team within a couple of weeks. For me in Corks place, but what great competition we’ve suddenly got UTC

The signings of Drinkwater, Jayrod and Pieters for the first team have got to be seen as very positive. Just a thought though: how many of these three will be in the starting 11 on Saturday? I wonder.

Not even a sensible comparison really....

As for the rest of your post, why does it stink of desperation signing what pretty much the whole world can see we needed?
If we'd gone with what we had and then had some injuries you'd be on here moaning, let's be honest.

Thankfully the club doesn't do deals to keep people like you happy, they do what they see fit and thus far it's worked.

Season long but almost certainly we'll have had a recall put in place for January should we wish to bring him back to sell.

Yes, one is from Chelsea to Burnley and the other from Burnley to QPR. :D

And being sensible, yes, one is until January and the other is for the season.

Has only played 30 mins in the last 2 years (take it he is referring to the prem)
Not had a proper pre season
A while off being at the fitness required

Excellent signing. Seen that Chelsea want him out for the season so I am sure we have first option on extending the loan/buying him.

Hopefully he gets up to speed quickly as I cannot wait to see him and Westwood in the middle.

Imagine if we started with

Pope
Lowton Tarkowski Mee Taylor
JBG Westwood Cork McNeil
Barnes Wood

would still give us the following to select from

Hart
Bardsley Long Gibson Pieters
Lennon Hendrick Drinkwater Brady
Vydra Rodriguez

My family are Leicester City season ticket holders, and I have had access to these tickets from time to time. I saw Danny play a number of times including the year they won the Prem. If he is 85% as good as that year we have a real player on our hands. He is very tenacious and competitive and was brilliant going forward and pressing in the final third. Can see him and Westwood being some partnership

Like Joey, it sounds like SD played a major part in persuading him. Its frightening so much hinges on Sean when we presumably have other staff that should be "selling the club" to new incomings

Should be a very good signing, and it will be excellent if we do end up with him for the full season, and slightly disappointing if it's all over come January.

He's an improvement on Cork and Westwood, and he'll move the ball faster whether it's short and sideways, diagonal, or direct to the striker like he did with Vardy. We haven't a striker with the outright pace of Vardy, but Wood and Barnes already look to peel into the channels, and that extra bit of quality might turn the balls from ones to hold up to ones to carry and advance with. Both Wood and Barnes can catch a shot sweet in such situations, and Jay perhaps better than either.

He's not afraid of hard work, and our style means that his lack of outright pace won't be an issue like it could in some stretched 442s.

Look forward to seeing him in action

Really does make you realise how much we have strengthened the quality of the squad over the past few seasons. People criticise our recruitment, and rightly so at times, but this goes to show how well we have done without breaking the bank or setting
pulses racing. This has got to be the strongest Burnley squad to start a season in donkey’s years.

Unfortunately too many people see the transfer window as a form of entertainment, they’ve fallen for the Sky hype. The transfer window isn’t supposed to be exciting or entertaining, that’s what the following 10 months are for.

None of Chelsea's outgoing loan deals have an end date on them - and I think the PL has altered it's loan rules for deals between any 2 clubs in the division

I think people want the big signing: someone who would immediately slot into the starting XI.
Slow, incremental signings don't bring much excitement, but our depth is amazing.
We are collectively greater than the sum of our individual players and I look forward to this upcoming season.

Sneaked him into my fantasy team an hour before he signed for 4.5 mill despite already having 3 Burnley players. Gets around the 3 players from one club rule unless I wish to make another transfer. I understand this isn’t necessarily a good thing.

Been no change of rules. Loans have to start and end in a transfer window so all loans will come to and in January or at the end of May. Sometimes season long loan deals will include a right to recall as happened when Chelsea recalled Bamford in Jan 2017 to enable them to sell him to Middlesbrough.

Has anyone ever played the Danny Drinkwater drinking game? When he’s playing in a televised game, every time the commentator says his name you have to neck a pint of water. The last one to die from water intoxication wins.

For me, the DD signing has put a whole new positive slant on the Big Kick-Off. He will be here for a minimum half a season, I expect him to be starting games, and I think he brings a real creative spark. Combined with keeping hold of Tarka, and having Dwight here to continue to develop for another few months at least, and Pope apparently fit again to be first choice between the sticks, I'm now approaching the season with an optimistic view rather than the little bit of worry I was feeling just a week ago. JayRod gives us some attacking options, and Pieters is a solid player to have around.
Freshened things up a bit while still having our solid core.
Got the new season butterflies building for Saturday even though I will just be watching it on a screen...

Ha ha - he won me my first point in my Watford v Burnley match report in 2010/11 after jdrobbo had challenged me to get as many Elton John titles as I could into the report.

It was good of DANIEL Drinkwater to miss that first minute chance.

This was the miss that prompted IanMcL to give Lee Grant 5 in the player ratings because he said he should have saved Drinkwater’s shot. The shot went wide and out for a goal kick.

What an utterly bizarre post. I wasn’t initially keen when mentioned due to him not playing much. There is no doubt that there is a quality player here though and this ticks boxes on so many levels. We needed to strengthen midfield and competition in this area. We have. We needed quality. We’ve got it. I’m satisfied. Now.let the coaching team do their magic.

Good grief there's some real talent there isn't there?

It's such an amazing time to be a Burnley fan.

We must all be in some sort of collective dream. I can remember being the only Burnley fan in my West Midlands school and being teased by my Sheffield Wednesday and Coventry supporting mates about how awful we were.

I think we've got a squad that can really push on and do well if they all play together, with spirit and discipline.

Thank the Lord for Sean Dyche - these are the new Glory Years.

We've signed four players who are all internationals and three of them have extensive Premier League experience while the fourth is a young goalkeeper who will currently be third choice. Despite speculation, not one player has left us who we didn't want to leave. I'd suggest the window has been far better than good.
