Re: Premier League clubs and the Living Wage
Impossible, really, for any Premier League club to justify not paying the living wage. Clubs couldn't function properly without those staff although some will presumably be employed by other companies who are contracted by the clubs.
Re: Premier League clubs and the Living Wage
I actually thought it was illegal for companies to pay less than the minimum wage.

"Companies accredited by the Living Wage Foundation commit to paying all staff and any third-party contract workers the voluntary rate of £9 an hour and £10.55 in London, higher than the statutory UK National Minimum Wage of £8.21."

Re: Premier League clubs and the Living Wage
Didn't one club try to get people to volunteer to work for the club on matchdays for nothing?.......Spijed wrote:I actually thought it was illegal for companies to pay less than the minimum wage.

Re: Premier League clubs and the Living Wage
Clubs have to be accredited to the Living wage Foundation and then they agree to paying all staff including third party contract workers the voluntary rate which is higher than the mandatory minimum wage. Presumably Burnley FC haven't applied to be accredited
Re: Premier League clubs and the Living Wage
Some of our transfer targets wern't even offered the living wage so the cleaners have no chance.

Re: Premier League clubs and the Living Wage
Its a shame that the minimum wage isn't a living wage in the first place.

Luton Town are leading the way with some of these off the pitch initiatives - weren’t they the first club to ban, or at least turn down, gambling company revenue?

Re: Premier League clubs and the Living Wage
I have evidence that there are people working for Burnley Football Club who don't even get paid the minimum wage, let alone a living wage. Anyone on here think that is disgraceful?

Re: Premier League clubs and the Living Wage
I had a conversation with Dave Baldwin about this a couple of seasons ago. It was his intention at that time to put a case to the Board when he thought he might win but he noted difficulties with outsourced staff. I emailed last season but had no reply. It wouldn't cost much. If anyone has evidence of employees being underpaid they should raise it with the club - it's likely to be contractors.
