It's death Jim, but not as you know it.

Canterbury UK 09.08.2019

I think if I die here, they will put on my death certificate cause of death, inertia.

My daughter described Canterbury as a "sylvanian family town". Apart from its having city status, she was probably not far off.
You'll have to wait till September when all the young people come back for term time and the place wakes up a bit.

Maybe the OP needs to encourage a few more immigrants into town, if the problem is that there’s nobody around.

And there I was thinking Britain is full.

Presumably Pstotto’s aversion to all non native cultural influences restricts him to nights out at English folk clubs anyway. It’s no wonder it’s empty!

Canterbury is a cosmopolitan town, close to Europe. it's nearer to France than to London.

Most of the locals are of foreign origin, as half the businesses in town are foreign restaurants. Those communities are very tight nit and all the foreign workers in the town who come to work cleaning offices and shops etc. also stay within their ex-pat communities.

The pub scene is dire and expensive and the beer is awful.

The local chavs are feral and unpleasant and speak in lingo unintelligible.

The toffs one never meets.

The university communities are internal.

House prices start at £250,000 for a tiny hovel slum.

I've been banned for life from one pub for 'laughing for no reason'

APART FROM ALL THAT... It's a really nice place to be as miserable as everyone else. :-)

As a Man of Kent, I really like Canterbury. Once we get rid of the dodgy northern immigrants, we can get back to drinking our shandy and ignoring strangers.

As a Lancastrian living in Kent for over 50 years I avoid Canterbury except for occasional visits to the St Lawrence ground to watch cricket. Canterbury Shitty Council bigs up the city as a centre for culture and tourism when actually towns such as Whitstable and Herne Bay deserves far more support. My wife and I bring over 12,000 foreign students to the area yet the Council does nothing to encourage or support us. Recently a German student was almost beaten to death in Canterbury and yet the council does nothing to aid safety.
