Re: Going to games alone
Interesting thread. I'm sure most of us travel to work (if still working) on our own - and once at work we are with our work colleagues. Some may be friends, some may be just the people we work with - and it's all fine. At a number of stages in my career, work has meant travelling abroad, maybe away for a few weeks at a time, working with new people in new places.
I've done the travelling to games on my own, sometimes meeting up with school friends from way back in the late 60s. It's all good, we are all Burnley fans when we arrive. However, I love travelling with my son - born in London - passing on the Burnley traditions is what it's all about. We will be at Emirates on Saturday. Looking forward to seeing many of you there.

Well I bought my Wolves away ticket last night too, so I wasn't ever going to change my ways, but great reading through this thread!

May be set up regular pre- match ( or post match ) meeting/pint venue before each game for those who travel in for games alone. Will add to the match day experience.

I get on with everyone around my season ticket so for home games it's a little different (although I wouldn't see them away from turf moor) but for away games I travel alone, watch the game alone and I really enjoy it. It's my me time doing something I am passionate about, but as I said recently I come in for a lot of stick. Am I actually just the saddo loner?
You do you. I don't go to games but if i did i'd go alone too if i had to. If there's something i want to see at the cinema and no one else is interested then i'll go alone to that and if i get any funny looks i'll just start making moaning noises during the dark bits.

Re: Going to games alone
The only exception should be going to the cinema alone, in Scotland as an Englishman to watch 12 years a slave and get a bit emotional. I know someone who did that once...GodIsADeeJay81 wrote:Nothing wrong with going to a game, or something else, alone.
I've done a number of games by myself and I regularly go to the cinema alone too, watching the new Tarantino film tomorrow night by myself.

Re: Going to games alone
My only option for Burnley is to go on my own, as I am an exile and my family either are fans of other clubs or don't like football.
Not a problem though as you meet so many fellow clarets. For example I went to the Spurs second leg when Jay scored in the 90th minute and in the wild scenes some guy sitting behind me in the stand hugged me and shouted "I love you!".
We are all Clarets, so when we watch our club, we are never alone.

Re: Going to games alone
Interesting thread. I've never been to watch Burnley on my own, but when I was 18 I went to Leeds Festival with my mates and ended up spending hours and hours by myself watching bands that no one else I was with wanted to see. It was nowhere near as boring as I thought it'd be, and I ended up chatting to loads of people who were stood near me so I'd imagine it'd be the same at the footy.

I did that at Glastonbury in the 90's and it was alright tbh.SammyBoy wrote:Interesting thread. My cousin's wanted to watch someone who I didn't.

I nearly always go by myself - although have been known to say hello to CT and JDRobbo - am presently convalescing with the aim of being fit and well for the Arsenal game on Saturday and will once again be attending on my own.

Re: Going to games alone
Went to the Aberdeen game by myself and would probably do it again. I feel the opposite to a few of those further up though that have sad they feel / would feel more self conscious going to away games alone.
Would probably make my own way there and there should be more atmosphere to get involved in than at home.

Re: Going to games alone
In the late 70’s I had season tickets. My step brother stopped going to matches for a couple of seasons, so I used to catch the train into Manchester walk to bus station to get the Burnley bus. ( It was always a little scary because either Utd or city were playing at home) Then I’d stand in the Longside and sing my heart out.
I only ever got a kicking once. That’s when we played stoke I was early into Burnley unfortunately arrived same time as a load of Stoke fans. Ah the good old days!

Re: Going to games alone
Solution for that is simple... A WhatsApp group? Right who's up for the challenge of setting it up?!atlantalad wrote:May be set up regular pre- match ( or post match ) meeting/pint venue before each game for those who travel in for games alone. Will add to the match day experience.
