I hate the delay in Var - JBG goal
As soon as the ref put his hand to his ear I thought he was going to disallow it.

As much as I don't like the delay, we have been subject to tens, if not hundreds of dubious/wrong decisions against us in the last few years which hopefully will benefit us in the future.
Consitency is the key.

What was the red card check first half? Didn’t show it on the big screen? Weird, didn’t know who was potentially getting sent off despite the funny “off” chants from the CFS.

Just a shame the red card was not given which it should have been.

It looked like he definitely dragged studs down his leg and stamped on his foot (but apparently not)

Could have been a red for me, certainly a yellow. Obviously VAR can't award a yellow, but frustrating for the ref to give nothing.

it was mistimed, should have been a yellow

I thought they were going to show the var footage in real time on the big screens?

OHHHHHHHHHHHHH When Ash scored his 2nd goal i jumped up then i did think he looked offside so it was a sit down and wait looking to see what would happen . Now it was on a stream but it was a moment of will it will it not be kind of thing . Now it was only when the kicked off i knew it was a goal .
A bit like Cricket really , you are up then you are down not knowing which way it's going to fall .

A picture always looks bad but he went to the ball and it was completely accidental, I’d hate to see the game ruined by that, these things happenwhiffa wrote:

Never a red. Thankfully var got that right. Another sort of challenge I was dreading Var for.whiffa wrote:

They used it in France yesterday. Almost identical challenge and fabregas got a yellow overturned to a red.
Re: I hate the delay in Var - JBG goal
Telegraph report about VAR at our match.
Looks like the skipper is getting absorbed into the club....
'The system was used again by referee Graham Scott to check a challenge by Adams on home captain Bee Mee'

Without the benefit of seeing the video those around me were convinced it was a goal, same folk who couldn't understand why City's goal last season was awarded.

We could very definitely do without the check to see if there will be a check.

Re: I hate the delay in Var - JBG goal
Why does every goal HAVE to be checked? Surely only things that could be errors should be checked? Gudmundson’s goal was perfect, no foul or anything in the build up but it had to be checked as for some reason they check every goal. It’s just slowing it down too much for me.
And don’t get me started on ‘clear and obvious’.

Re: I hate the delay in Var - JBG goal
They were checking JBG's goal for the 'foot up' tackle when he won the ball. There was no contact, but the defender realised he had been done and hopped around one one leg to claim that there was contact.

But no “VAR Check” was announced, which presumably would have been if they thought there might be an issue. So what we appear to have is a pre-check check, which is bonkers.dougcollins wrote:They were checking JBG's goal for the 'foot up' tackle when he won the ball. VAR is horrible. God knows how keepers are ever meant to save penalties again. It’s physically impossible not too move forward whilst diving. They should be allowed to stand behind their line.

Re: I hate the delay in Var - JBG goal
The advantage is meant to be with the penalty taker. It’s a penalty, the clue is in the word penalty. The keeper can dive in any direction he chooses but can’t move off his line until the ball has been struck. He isn’t meant to be given any slight advantage to help him save it.

So, maybe he should be made to stand on the half way line by your 'logic'.
Re: I hate the delay in Var - JBG goal
The goalkeeper has never been allowed to move off his line at a penalty. Originally he couldn't move at all, then he could move his body but not his feet, then he could move all of himself but not come off his line. VAR is just because referees proved unable to judge whether anyone was moving off the line, even in cases where the keeper was two or three yards off.Granny WeatherWax wrote:VAR is horrible. Re: I hate the delay in Var - JBG goal
Every goal is checked just in case. What gets me about Gudmondsson's goal is that it took so long. They suggest that most VAR checks on goals should be complete before the players are ready for kick-off (which shouldn't be difficult, considering how long celebrations go on nowadays). This one took surprisingly long.thelaughingclaret wrote:Why does every goal HAVE to be checked? Surely only things that could be errors should be checked? Re: I hate the delay in Var - JBG goal
It isn’t my logic but even if it was that’s a pretty strange response. Referees are apparently watching for keeper movement and VAR we are told will leave it to the refs. As mentioned earlier the offence was encroachment by the player who eventually cleared the danger. For too long keeper movement and encroachment have been ‘almost ignored’ by the officials, so it is about time the advantage is with the penalty taker.

Re: I hate the delay in Var - JBG goal
Yes, but we got an official message on the screen for Woods’ “goal”, but not for JBG’s. This would suggest they were checking JBG’s to assess whether a more formal check was needed? A pre-check!simonclaret wrote:Every goal is checked
Re: I hate the delay in Var - JBG goal
I think it's more likely to suggest that the VAR man doesn't work the big screen and the message didn't get through to the screen operators.agreenwood wrote:Yes, but we got an official message on the screen for Woods’ “goal”, but not for JBG’s. Re: I hate the delay in Var - JBG goal
I think it's because Wood's would have been changing the on-field decision. The three goals were checked without announcement as they'd already been given as goals on-field.agreenwood wrote:Yes, but we got an official message on the screen for Woods’ “goal”, but not for JBG’s. Pretty sure I've read that the VAR team controls the on-screen messages not the club staff.dsr wrote:I think it's more likely to suggest that the VAR man doesn't work the big screen and the message didn't get through to the screen operators.
