What?!
Worryingly the referee didn't even think it was a yellow.

For me it was a red. He rolled his foot over the top of the ball and hit Ben with force.

I personally love the fact that our general shithousery really annoys the opposition fans, particularly after a defeat.

Gunn better than either Pope or Hart? It starts off as fanciful ******** and goes downhill from there.
Redmond is the only player of their’s who’d get near our starting 11.

Appreciate it's time to move on but did this guy even watch the highlights?
All Sean Dyche’s men needed to do was employ the same tactics they have many years now: fire long, high balls into space behind the opposition defence and allow a robust, hard-working forward to latch onto what comes his way.

But let's look at the 'long ball ' argument. First off what the hell is wrong with finding a way to win games? If you are a manager and you don't like it then find a way of beating it but don't whinge if you are beaten by it, it's still bloody football, if you can't beat it then you are suspect as a manager. If you are a fan what do you want? Pretty football that gets you relegated or a way of winning that brings you points? People should stop moaning about other club's style of play (not just us) and find a way of beating them or shut the f"ck up. As for the 'pundits' I find it somewhat crass and also fawning that when we play a long ball up and score we are playing the long ball game but if City (or any of the favoured clubs) do it they have played an 'incisive forward pass brilliantly'. I have never been able to stomach holier than thou arrogance and pomposity and that applies to football as well as life.
Very well said. I genuinely don't care how our opponents play. In fact I don't care how we play as long as we win!

If its the same tactics that we've had for many years now, then why has nobody realised and come up with a way of preventing us from doing it?

Liverpool and City keepers are past masters of the long ball and the sooner we have keepers with their abilities to find outfield players 60-70 yards away with incisive forward passes aka fantastic long balls the better. Jimmy Mac was a master of the long ball cross field to either Pilky or Connelly from opposite wings.
We had one sat on our bench Saturday. He is our best passer :o :o :o :D

A robust hardworking forward with skill and determination. It wasn't just a question of latching onto what came his way...his technique and finishing was absolutely first class.

I think maybe what Southampton need to do is learn how to defend first before anything else and not worry about other teams tactics.

Having watched the three goals I wouldn't say any of them were typical of a long ball game. Here's my opinions on them for what it's worth.

The first goal was a speculative lob into the wind by Pieters, he directs it towars the goal with the outside of his foot and the wind did exactly what he hoped for. Defender mistimes it and Barnes controls and volleys the ball beautifully and scores.

Second goal was 4 passes across field then a pinpoint cross from Pieters and perfectly timed run by Barnes finished off with another cracking volley.

Third goal was a kick out from the goalie because he was under pressure from a Southampton player after a back pass (and these are always long kicks regardless of which team you are). JBG won the ball with his determination and from then on was a lovely individual run and shot from him.

Have to say I was mightily impressed by Pieters and Taylor will have his work cut out winning his place back.

Great assessment. I didn't think it was long ball stuff either and agree with you totally about Pieters, if I were Taylor right now I'd be going 'oh, FFS'.

If we play like that all season, we'll beat and upset a lot of teams... and get the same Burnley fans complaining about our style as well.
The team stuck at their jobs for 90+ minutes... Southampton's didn't = we won

Re the Southampton fans criticising Danny Ings on Twitter the clown who tweeted this really stands out !!

"I think we have to play Ings against Liverpool. Strikers always have a tendency to score against their old clubs"

Err :D
