All Sean Dyche’s men needed to do was employ the same tactics they have many years now: fire long, high balls into space behind the opposition defence and allow a robust, hard-working forward to latch onto what comes his way.

The first goal was a speculative lob into the wind by Pieters, he directs it towars the goal with the outside of his foot and the wind did exactly what he hoped for. Defender mistimes it and Barnes controls and volleys the ball beautifully and scores.

Second goal was 4 passes across field then a pinpoint cross from Pieters and perfectly timed run by Barnes finished off with another cracking volley.

Third goal was a kick out from the goalie because he was under pressure from a Southampton player after a back pass (and these are always long kicks regardless of which team you are). JBG won the ball with his determination and from then on was a lovely individual run and shot from him.

Have to say I was mightily impressed by Pieters and Taylor will have his work cut out winning his place back.
