Re: Managers pictures on Turnstiles.
There are only 2 things I will ever thank Coyle for.
1. The promotion, with the best atmosphere i have ever experienced at Reading and day out at Wembley.
2. Capital Punishment - the run in the league cup.
That being said, his lies, deceit, and overall bad persona that caused an almost capitulation of the club i love, will never allow me to forgive and forget. I wish I had your lack of adoration for the club to allow myself to move on, but he's a ******* ****.

I've always found this a weird stick to beat Coyle with. Those backroom staff were people able to make their own decisions, Coyle didn't force them to join Bolton.jtv wrote:Factual evidence:
1. he took all backroom staff with him, even the staff he inherited rather than brought over himself
2. he had lined up 3 players to come on loan to Burnley, who then suddenly found themselves playing for Bolton
For me that's enough factual evidence to label him a snake. I am sure that others can provide more factual evidence to confirm the label. I will not go into the debate of whether he has some credit for today's success - as someone said all managers since 1987 have laid a stone or two on the way, you might say that even managers before that!
(And that's obviously putting aside the fact that there was no guarantee that they'd still have a job, or at least the same job, at Burnley if the new manager wanted to bring their own staff in.)

Once you look at the finances there's a very strong argument that without Coyle the club would truly have capitulated with administration and an ever-decreasing wage bill and the impact that would have had on our league position.Foshiznik wrote:There are only 2 things I will ever thank Coyle for.

Just because some people can see the bigger picture doesn't mean that they don't adore the club.

No evidence to suggest administration and without Coyle we might not have gone on to spend in quite the way we did in 2008.aggi wrote:Once you look at the finances there's a very strong argument that without Coyle the club would truly have capitulated with administration and an ever-decreasing wage bill and the impact that would have had on our league position.

He was as much a cause as he was the solution to any cashflow problems with his spending. It wasn't in question under Cotterill. That's the bigger picture.aggi wrote:Once you look at the finances there's a very strong argument that without Coyle the club would truly have capitulated with administration and an ever-decreasing wage bill and the impact that would have had on our league position.

Re: Managers pictures on Turnstiles.
Was Coyle spending money he wasn’t allowed to?
Re: Managers pictures on Turnstiles.
I know that you'll never agree but even before Coyle came in we were looking in a very shaky financial state.ClaretTony wrote:No evidence to suggest administration and without Coyle we might not have gone on to spend in quite the way we did in 2008.
We had sold Turf Moor and Gawthorpe to try and reduce our debts.
In 2007 we made a loss of £4m on a turnover of £6.6m. We had a wages:revenue ratio of 105% (i.e. our wage bill was higher than all of our revenue).
The year before was a similar picture although the loss was smaller due to the sale of Akinbiyi.
If we had carried on as we were then I can't see on what basis the financial situation would have turned around and we'd have started to record profits (unless we had cut the wage bill and transfers which almost always leads to a matched decrease in league position).
Our owners had (and still have) limited funds to subsidise us and certainly didn't have bottomless pockets.
I believe that the Modus insolvency event would probably have pushed the club into administration. There is no way the club would have had the assets to be able to repay a loan when the administrators called it in so either the other directors would have had to pay it (and I'm not convinced that would have happened) or we'd have gone into administration.
Re: Managers pictures on Turnstiles.
See above. Cotterill had a wages:turnover ratio of over 100% when he left. That isn't sustainable.Foshiznik wrote:He was as much a cause as he was the solution to any cashflow problems with his spending. It wasn't in question under Cotterill. That's the bigger picture.

I'll take your word for it as someone clearly more understanding of the finances than me.aggi wrote:See above. Cotterill had a wages:turnover ratio of over 100% when he left. That isn't sustainable.
