England squad for 2nd Ashes test

Post by tiger76 » Sun Aug 11, 2019 5:33 pm

Moeen and Anderson replaced by Leach and Archer, the rest same as Edgbaston,3 or 4 can consider themselves lucky to avoid the chop, now it's time for them to prove their critics wrong.

You’ve forgotten about Sam Curran.

Sometimes you have to back the good players when they are having a bad time the class will come through

Hope Bairstow realises that if he doesn't get a good score in either innings it should be the end of this Ashes series for him!

I hope he isnt thinking in that way as he needs to go out in a confident and positive frame of mind.

Could you imagine wishing a Burnley player was going into a game with the understanding that he will be dropped if he doesnt score or makes a bad mistake

Bairstow place is safe after his record in previous tests.
If his place is unsure then Buttler,Denly and even Burns ( one hundred and little else) places are up for grabs and we have no other Test Match quality players in reserve

Will be a better contest this time when we have 11 versus 11.

Nope he was in the squad for Edgbaston he just didn't make the XI,they've only named a 12 man squad for Lords,so he's got a much higher chance of playing and he should,i guess it'll depend how the pitch looks as to whether the spinner will play or not.

The bigger worry is if the batsman fail again, who is there in reserve that would do any better, this probably explains why there hasn't been wholesale changes.

It doesn't help that Jimmy,Wood and Stone are injured,i just hope Jofra is thoroughly tested for any fitness issues, the last thing England need is a threadbare attack for successive tests, that's one reason why i'd opt for an extra bowler, also in a 5 man attack,Jofra can be unleashed in short bursts.

About time for Moeen.

Even I could bat against him recently.

For my money we need to play both Leach and Archer. Still think we'll lose like. We always seem to at Lord's.

But the reverse is often true in that players don't always perform at their best because they know they will never be dropped and they just go through the motions during a game.

We've had plenty of those in the past.

Apart from a century out in Sri Lanka Bairstow has contributed nothing to the Test team in the past 12/18 months.
