Bad result for us. Another United goal would see us drop out of the top four and I think if that was to happen we’d struggle to get back into it.

It’s interesting tbh.
Who would you rather have managing your team?
Dyche or Lampard
Who would you rather have leading your line?
Barnes or Abraham
Places in the top 6 could definitely be up for grabs this season...

I’m guessing you remember when we finished 7th and our team is better now. I wouldn’t rule it out for sure

Giroud is a better finisher than Abraham. Plus he leads the line much better. Helping the 3 behind him into play much better than Abraham can.Tall Paul wrote:It's almost as if something happened that prevented them spending any of that money on a new striker this summer.
Batshuayi is a much better player also than Abraham and didnt make the bench.
Plus the so called transfer ban yet they have been able to loan out 22 players still. Oh yeah times must be so hard.

Re: Lampard out....
Early days obviously but if Danny Drinkwater is looking to get his career back on track would a return to Chelsea in January be the best way to do that?
For all the moaning on this board our three outfield signings over the summer are proven PL performers - Chelsea started today, at Old Trafford, with Abraham and Mason-Mount.
It's not Lampard's fault as such. Part of the reason he got the job is that he accepts the constraints under which they are operating. There's going to be no point sacking him because no manager with the kind of profile usually associated with that role would be interested under the circumstances.
On today's game in particular - some good opportunist strikes from United but their carelessness in possession would have had this board in meltdown if that had been a Clarets' performance.
Based on the first round of fixtures - defensively - we are way ahead of the game. That alone. aside from anything else puts us in an incredibly strong position this season.

Surely you work Kante into your system or build a system around him. You can’t leave him on the bench. If he keeps doing that he won’t make the end of the season.

I would have thought it common sense to allow Lampard time to make the most out of what he's got. He's promoting younger players and it will take time to reap rewards. It would be refreshing if the Chelsea board aren't as trigger happy as they have been in the past.

Re: Lampard out....
Are you for real? You would have Abraham in a Dyche team? Plus Barnes is by far a better player. He may of been cheap. He may be unfashionable. But he is a proven top flight striker. I would guarantee most defnces when playing us look at our team sheet and see Barnes and think "oh no not him again, lucky we only have to play him twice a year", and work will be done all week on trying to nullify him with special words to defenders on how to deal with him. When they see Abraham it will just be "play your own game and you will be alright"Devils_Advocate wrote:Dyche & Abraham without hesitation

Weird game Utd never played for 60 minutes, and end up winning by 4,Chelsea looked decent in the 1st half, but you have to take your chances at this level.
And let's be honest who else is going to take that gig ATM.
A harsh lesson for their youngsters this league is brutal.

Re: Lampard out....
Have never seen Barnes surrender possession as cheaply as Abraham did in the build-up to the game-changing second goal. It's just not in the DNA of our players under Dyche.
At this level it doesn't matter how talented you are if you can't master the basics you're in trouble.
Very much encouraged by the huge under-performance of several much-vaunted coaches, individuals and teams this weekend - can only be good news for us. It's all about sticking at what you are good at and what you know works. Aside from the obvious (City, Liverpool and Spurs) there's no better exponent of that than a properly prepared Burnley team under SD.

Got to agree that whilst every team in this league are a threat there’s only the obvious top two that are to be feared. I expect the likes of Everton and Leicester to threaten the top six this season.

Absolutely. Everything's relative and as Sean would say "one game at a time" - but we are a settled group with a well established manager who's got a plan. So many teams, some looking at the top, some looking at the bottom, are in transition and won't find their feet for 10-15 games by which time, if all goes well, we could have put down a significant marker.Rileybobs wrote:Got to agree that whilst every team in this league are a threat there’s only the obvious top two that are to be feared. As an aside will be interested to monitor the progress of Sheffield United under Chris Wilder. Perhaps not nailed-on relegation certainties bringing at least one other team into the mix at the bottom end of the table.

Re: Lampard out....
Lampard is in a no.lose situation in my opinion. If he succeeds in securing a place in the CL it will be a good result.
If he fails and gets the sack, taking a job none of the 'Top Managers' would touch whilst unable to sign anyone won't go against him. His PR team should see to that.

Re: Lampard out....
There are still a bunch of very decent players at Chelsea despite today's performance. Unfortunately neither their central defenders nor strikers played at all well today so all the passing the ball around in between counted for nowt (although I think they had the better of the first half anyway).
Bookies still see them finishing 6th, much shorter odds for the top4 than Everton, Wolves or Leicester who are next in line.
Lampard will have to find a system/do some coaching/motivating that gets the best at the back/up front from what he's got until the end of the season. He should get 6th if he's got any future in big-time management.

Re: Lampard out....
A move too soon for Frank IMO and today's result does not bode well for Drinkwater being here in January should Chelsea not be pushing for a European slot by then
Re: Lampard out....
I think Lampard may just be given a bit of time at Chelsea. It seems like Abramovich is losing a bit of interest and wants to try and give some of their younger players a go instead of forking out millions of pounds every year. Plus as long as they are playing decent football I think it will take a while before the fans turn on him.

Re: Lampard out....
Looking at Chelsea's player roster with respect to midfielders, they have really spunked some money on a few of them:
Kovacic was £40m however he has played for Real Madrid and Inter Milan, Jorghino was £57m from Napoli, WorldCup winner Kante a snip at £30m, and Pulisic a 20 year old American from Borussia Dortmunds youth set up cost £58m. Barkley cost them £15m in Jan 2018 and he has made 15 starts in the EPL. Drinkwater cost them £35m. Additionally They paid £8m for Marco Van Ginkel in 2013 and he has made zero starts.
Thats nearly £250m worth of midfielders and Lampard started Mason Mount.
Bizarre.

Still think he will do fine. And hope he does. Nowt like judging his future after 90 minutes away at Old Trafford
Re: Lampard out....
Kante has been injured - that’s why he was on the bench. He should not have brought him on - noticed he got absolutely clattered making a tackle and was limping after that. James skinned him 5 minutes later.
Chelsea team looks so much weaker than last year. Christensen hardly got a game last year and played this week alongside Zouma who spent the season on loan.
Seems a ridiculous decision to let Cahill go.
The left back was in and out of the side last year.
Kovatic was bang average last year but with the transfer ban they bought him because he had been on loan.
Mount and Abraham both sent out on loan for last few seasons and now starting.
Barkley rarely started last season.
And the biggest difference is of course no Hazard.
The side they fielded today would not have been far off their reserves last year - and they weren’t that brilliant last season !

Re: Lampard out....
Considering the first few games of the season are match fitness exercises as a carry over from pre season, it's a bit early to be writing anyone off IMO.
Managers such as Dyche, Howe, Hodgson, Klopp, etc. are evolving an established squad and system, others may take a number of games to tweak and educate theirs and the formation to the way they want them to play.
Apart from the odd anomoly, 10 games normally gives an indication of how well a team is going to do.
