Great uploads wcz. Thank you!Working_Class_Zero wrote:[attachmentjpg[/attachment]
The picture above looks like a game against Blackpool around 1980? I recognise Dobbo. Interesting the lack of advertising hoardings around the ground. Maybe prescient of the thin times ahead...

Yes more great pix. Like the top one in post 357 taken from front of the Beehole - presumably vs Newcastle, good crowd on the Longside, I can make out Stevo, Jim Thomson, Uwe, Brenno, Waldron, Nulty and Casp two of the four in the wall? Could that be John Tudor of Newcastle facing the goal?

I think you are right about that being Rodaway and Ingham, and Jim Thomson is no 5 who I originally thought was Waldo. Could it be Taff and Hankin making up the wall? Their no 9 looks a bit thin to be MacDonald.

Oh good thinking Royboy, later than I imagined, so that would be Terry Cochrane and not Casper in the wall...

Aye, in fact on closer inspection all eleven Burnley players are in the photo.Cajun wrote:Oh good thinking Royboy, later than I imagined, so that would be Terry Cochrane and not Casper in the wall...
Scotty is over Stevenson's shoulder, in the wall are Ingham, Smith, TC and Skippy.
Then coming across, Thomson, Brennan, Fletch, Uwe and Rodaway

Re: Burnley F C in pictures
I know who the four on the horse picture but I don't know the name of one of them. They were the four captains of the four Lancashire teams who won the four divisions in 1972/73.
Tommy Smith (Liverpool)
Martin Dobson (Burnley)
Warwick Rimmer (Bolton)
Southport Captain

Re: Burnley F C in pictures
Wouldn't have known that without a bit of googling but I remember the pic from when it was taken.Tricky Trevor wrote:John McPhee captained Southport.
Little story from that season about those four winners.
I was at Uni at the time in Sheffield and a couple of days before coming home for Easter the bloke who looked after all the bookings for the squash courts, 5-a-side pitches told me to make sure we'd won the league. He told he and a couple of friends had done a bet on who would win the four leagues. With one of them from Bolton they went for the four Lancashire clubs. He said they would do OK if they got two of them, really well if they got three and he said I'd never see him again if they got all four. I never saw him again.

In the chess photo who is playing the white pieces.?
Im going to send it to the owner of CHESS magazine who I know well. He is a Liverpool supporter so will be interested that Tommy Smith is in the photo.
Does anyone know any more background on why the chess and horse photos were taken.

I'll bet that when Smith captured an opponents piece he knocked it off the board using his own piece.

It's an all Lancashire run-in for the four football league championships and the four captains of the top teams gathered for a friendly game of chess. The players involved are Tommy Smith (Liverpool), Martin Dobson (Burnley), Warwick Rimmer (Bolton) and John McPhee (Southport). After the game the four footballers cracked open a bottle of champagne to toast the health of another Lancashire champion - Red Rum, winner of the Grand National, pictured in his Southport stable, 6th April 1973
