I think the guy is Gordon Clayton. Wasn't he Chief Scout?
It is Gordon. He was chief scout then but became assistant manager when Frank Casper replaced Brian Miller.
It was through him we got Lee Dixon at Burnley. Clayton had been the reserve team goalkeeper at Man United when Roy Dixon (Lee's dad) had been reserve team goalkeeper at Man City. Sadly passed away just 54.

Although he's not on the picture, I think it is the journey home from Lausanne in 1966 and they are celebrating the birth of Andy Lochhead's daughter.

Cracking pictures, so many to "like"
Favourites pictures, besides the Longside bogs, are
1 The empty old Cricketfield terrace (earliest memory of going through there v Eintracht Frankfurt 1967, what an atmosphere!)
2 Nuremberg 1914 So, just before the outbreak of ww1? Then the infamy of Nuremberg ww2

The one on the left looks like Harry Gillespie to me.
He attempted to coach me and my mates when I was a kid.
* Just spoke to Harry's daughter, to confirm.it is Harry Gillespie.

Plenty of unanswered questions from that latest photo.
What year was the photo taken?.....Mac left us in 1963 and looking at his hairstyle, and that of the others, it's clearly several years after that.......Early 70's perhaps?.........What was the trophy he was presenting, and are they even Burnley lads in the photo?

The Cricket Field End
When did they make it smaller by moving the wall back? The earlier image from the 1920’s shows the stanchions behind the wall, but the later one with the workmen working on the fence shows the wall a bit further back.

Claretforever........looks like the answer to your query is the summer of 1961.
In your top photo of Arthur Bellamy, that was taken as part of the photo shoot before our FA Cup Final against Tottenham in May 1962. Take a look at the thread for the Burnley v Newcastle match on 30/12/60, and the stanchions at that time are clearly behind the perimeter wall. So, it seems the only time that work might have been carried out is at the end of the 1960/61 season.

I thought the stanchions were always in front of the wall from when I started going on but as royboyclaret pointed out, they were behind for that Newcastle game.

Yeah. We seem to have lost something like 8 terrace steps which affected capacity, not that we needed it for too much longer.
68 yard pitch with, at the time, a 15” shoulder width per person usually used for capacity (36” yard / 15” = 2.4 people per yard) means we lost around 1,305 off the capacity with that move.
Thanks Royboy for pointing that out. I hadn’t noticed. I wonder if it was to do with lengthening the pitch or to move spectators back due to bits of crowd trouble, like when they installed the fenced off area in the Bee Hole End?
