Anyone in Singapore for the Arsenal game?
I've had a request from a Burnley supporter by the name of John B who will be in Singapore on business this week and is hoping to watch the Arsenal game with some Burnley fans.
He said he will be in Muddy Murphy's on Claymore from 7 p.m. - I think that's where he met up with some Singapore Clarets previously for a game.

If he can pay my air fare Tony, tell him I might be able to make it out there.

I'm based in Singapore - ex-Burnley Grammar School, I now find myself working at the National University of Singapore.
I'll try and meet with this John B fella on Saturday at 7pm. Muddy Murphy's is one of my least favourite pubs, however .... Why travel to Singapore to hang out in an Irish theme pub?

It is John B - I think they've used the pub before when he's been over there because they always show the games.MalaysiaMo wrote:Why travel to Singapore to hang out in an Irish theme pub?

Mo, I've never seen one of these meetups held in a local coffee bar in AMK, Tampines or Changi Village though? Would be an interesting experience for John B though!
As for Muddy Murphys, its moved around shopping malls a bit, a bit weird even for Singapore to have a pub in a shopping mall though. The new location is conveniently located across from Orchard Towers though...

Re: Anyone in Singapore for the Arsenal game?
I see the proximity of M Murphy's to Orchard Towers as more of a weakness than a strength.
I didn't realise the choice of where to watch footie in Singapore was so stark, and between either a local coffee shop, lah, or an expat/tourist bar that's the product of Irish fakery....
If John B wants to sell supporting Burnley to local Singaporean heartlanders we'd be better off meeting in a bar that shows the football and where locals hangout, surely?

My comment was slightly tongue in cheek... I know going out for some drinks in the proximity of Orchard Rd will raise eyebrows with the better half.
I think I've got so used to paying 5.50 for a bottle of Tiger in the local coffee shop that a session in town is likely to result in a shock. The last time I was in Clarke Quay I remember paying a few hundred dollars for a round.

He's actually wanting no more than to meet up with some fellow Clarets. They've met there before.MalaysiaMo wrote:If John B wants to sell supporting Burnley to local Singaporean heartlanders we'd be better off meeting in a bar that shows the football and where locals hangout, surely?

Don't buy a bottle of Peroni from the rooftop bar at the Fullerton.SingaporeClarets wrote:My comment was slightly tongue in cheek... I know going out for some drinks in the proximity of Orchard Rd will raise eyebrows with the better half.

I understand that, just better places to meet - better (and cheaper) beer, mix of local and non-locals and without the distraction of replica peat-digging implements. I'll let John B know for next time ...ClaretTony wrote:He's actually wanting no more than to meet up with some fellow Clarets. They've met there before.

As said, I think John has met with fellow Clarets there before. You'll enjoy his company, he's not aloof like some of our directors.MalaysiaMo wrote:I understand that, just better places to meet - better (and cheaper) beer, mix of local and non-locals and without the distraction of replica peat-digging implements. You've now revealed the Invitee. Singapore is a wonderful city. I'd love to visit again after 40 years. Fortunately I'll be at the Emirates on Saturday. I am sure I was there when we last won 1-0 in the 70's.

Sadly, I didn't get there Tony John B mustn't have been reading this or he just forgot to send me my airline ticket.ClaretTony wrote:How was it watching the match with John B?
