If that is what makes a real fan then you're welcome to the label, because quite frankly you're an idiot.

I honestly feel I read more posts on this forum where someone complains about people being critical of Hendrick than I do posts which are actually critical of Hendrick.

Re: Hendrick
It’d cap off a good Transfer Window if we could secure Jeff’s services for another three years, as far as I’m concerned. He’s a valuable Squad Member and a great Team Player.
Is he better than Arfield? Hard to say. He is younger, and with the best years of his career still in front of him, he could leave Scotty just a pleasant memory.

Re: Hendrick
Highly praised by SD for his work and attitude during pre season
Agreed the one year extension last season but fear he may decide to go this summer if not getting game time, which would be a shame
Would also like to see Taylor sign a new long term deal before Xmas

Re: Hendrick
The debate isn't whether Hendrick is any good or not - it's if he won't sign a new contract should he be sold in January.
I think the answer to that has to be 'yes'. There's no way we can afford for him to walk away for nothing.
I hope he signs a new deal though.

Good to know, I'll make sure I tell other people when I see them at Turf Moor, or away games, who I know also changed teams.KRBFC wrote:I don’t consider a real fan someone who chooses to switch teams and support us because we got promoted.
I've never claimed to be a real fan though
Re: Hendrick
It was a very specific list of criteria. It's very possible that Jeff Hendrick is actually the only player that matches themGodIsADeeJay81 wrote:Don't be surprised if they don't have recommendations for a replacement and costings.
They'll trot out the party line about it not being their job to replace him adequately.

There was an article a few years back about how the team played and what Hendrick did, when he was playing behind the front two.aggi wrote:It was a very specific list of criteria. It's very possible that Jeff Hendrick is actually the only player that matches them
It was quite insightful, but even when it was posted on here there are a number of people who just couldn't understand what Hendrick was doing for the team.

Indeed (it was from F365 so it may even have been me who posted it). Personally I quite like Hendrick although I think his best performances for us have been on the right of midfield.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote:There was an article a few years back about how the team played and what Hendrick did, when he was playing behind the front two.

The point was that Spice's criteria were so specific there probably isn't another player that matches them, regardless of price.

Re: Hendrick
I'm not sure they were that specific and they certainly aren't arbitrary. If you want to take them up a level, they boil down to being a good age but being established at this level, being physically imposing and having good technical attributes (his adaptability is a reflection of those attributes). But you're right, there aren't too many players who fulfil those criteria- which is precisely why he's so important to us.aggi wrote:Indeed (it was from F365 so it may even have been me who posted it). They were very specific in terms of age and height and where the experience had to be which was my original, somewhat jokey, point.claretspice wrote:I'm not sure they were that specific and they certainly aren't arbitrary. Personally I don't think that Hendrick is that physically imposing. He isn't winning a huge number of headers or tackles and you don't see players bouncing off him like Pogba or someone on the ball.
With the slightly broader criteria then you're looking at Delph, James McCarthy, Andre Gomes, Will Hughes, Cairney off the top of my head. I'm sure there are plenty of others (and obviously not all of those would be doable in terms of wages).
Obviously now that we're adding more depth to the squad there's also the consideration as to whether we need a player who can play in 4 positions or whether we would be better off with more specialist players.

But those original supposedly specific criteria were themselves (fairly obviously) a pithy and slightly humorous way of making a broader point.aggi wrote:They were very specific in terms of age and height and where the experience had to be which was my original, somewhat jokey, point.

As for the players cited not sure any of them contradict my point. Sure Delph went for eight million this summer but he's also 29 and that fee reflects the fact his wages meant City had to drop the asking price to get him off the books. McCarthy has barely played for 3 years.
Cairney would cost closer to twenty million despite having never proved himself in the premier league, which sort of underlines my point..

Does anyone know if the club and Hendrick are negotiating a new contract?

Re: Hendrick
His adaptability is certainly a plus, this however does not imply he is the best in any role across midfield. Nowadays, top teams are construed of players specialized and outstanding in their own respective positions.claretspice wrote:You let me know where we can get a 6 foot tall midfielder, who can play pretty much any role across a midfield 4 or 5, and has played 100+ premier league games and is only 27, for less than 20 million in the current market.
Finally, I think your conclusion that Hendrick is the only adaptable player in the 20M bracket is erroneous. As some other posters have rightfully pointed out, I'd place Arfield in the same bracket. May not be so physically imposing, but certainly had a habit of scoring goals from midfield. And what about Wade Elliot?
It's all about opinions this game

At this level Arfields ball retention just wasn't good enough, that to me is the difference and it's a big one at this level.
