A lot of paper talk about Sheffield Utd after him in January.

They must be getting vibes that he is ready to talk to them for a cut price fee - he must not be willing to sign a new contract by the looks of it - or have we even offered him one ?

As you all know im not his biggest fan but just wanted to hear other peoples views.

I think we do need better if possible.

we'll have offered him a new contract. If we wanted rid, we wouldn't have exercised the 1 year option to extend.

It'd cost him £20 million plus in this market to replace him, so I think it's crucial we extend his contact and keep him for another 2/3 years.

As a versatile 4th choice midfielder who can offer cover on the right of a 4-4-2 or at the front of a 4-5-1 I think he perfect and about the quality we should expect for this level of backup.

If he wont sign a contract and we can get cash in Jan rather then nothing in the summer then providing we have at least 3 fit centre midfield players for me its a no brainer to take the cash

Hendrick isn’t a great player, but he’s a great squad man. He covers various positions (to varying levels of success) and that is in itself indispensable.

We should definitely be trying to keep him.

With Drinkwater only here (for sure) until January, that could mean us having just Cork and Westwood (and an injured Defour no doubt), so something will need to happen.

I like Jeff , he’s all about effort and commitment ,but ultimately he’s just short of prem level. I think he needs another environment to thrive in .

A lot might come down to Hendrick himself. Is he happy as a squad man? As a jack of all trades who's asked to fill in anywhere but the position he grew up playing, and probably considers his favoured position?

If he wants to be playing in the centre of midfield, he'll have seen our attempts to strengthen there and rightly concluded that Dyche doesn't see him playing there for us. On that basis, maybe we will offer him a new deal, but maybe he won't be keen to sign it.

Of course, Hendrick may well be very happy as a squad man, and see being part of a PL team to be more important than seeking more elsewhere.

At 27 years of age, he will peak over the next 3 years and we could easily see a 20% to 30% improvement. Playing him in his best position would see us having to change the formation which I can't see SD doing but he's an important part of the squad and I'd love to see him stay.

I'd love to keep him but he will only ever be a squad player for us and he must know that by now.
He should be looking to play every week, as should Kevin Long, but I hope they don't.

My view is you don't like him, you want rid and you want to start totally unfounded rumors early before the January window. Get a grip and stop reading things that aren't on the paper. He's going nowhere at least until January and then probably not because he is A) a decent player for us and B) Dyche loves him.

Tell me, were you disappointed that Tarks didn't go?

Just to correct the suggestion/impression that Jeff is a "squad player" . He is a couple short of 100 Premier League appearances for Burnley.
He usually makes around 30 starts per season. He played in pretty much every game during the good spell from Boxing Day last season.

Whether you rate or not is another matter, plainly Dyche does.

When you operate like we do on tight budgets he is a perfect fit for us. Can play multiple roles meaning we dont need the same amount of back up across all positions knowing he can slot in.

I do think though that he will want away. He will want to play in what he believes to be his best position and be first choice for that shirt. Whereas with us he is always just covering a role.

Would love him to stay but if we can get him shipped off to Sheff Utd early enough in Jan then he can tell them he is a lil lonely and persuade them to take Brady off our hands too. Tell them how they are the perfect fit and ideal for each others games. That would be the only plus in losing him. If he takes Brady with him

If Dyche rated him he’d play him in his natural position and he wouldn’t have let his contract run down to six months.

The problem is JBG is injury prone, so it’s a big risk letting him go because we have no alternative.

I’d keep him until the end of the season rather than flog him for 5 million and have no cover.

I agree he is a fantastic player but his biggest fault is his adaptability. If he was one dimensial like many players we have had SD he would have been given a role and carried it out and SD would have been happy and likewise the fans. But because he can move here there and everywhere he is expected to be able to do on the right what he can do in the middle and vice versa where in a SD side each role has specific instructions and SD doesnt want players straying too much from that roles duties.

So it's in the papers less than 3 days after the window closes. Hendrick is going nowhere just like Tarks was going nowhere even though it seemed half the people on here had sold him to Leicester without any offer being made. I swear many of our fans aren't happy unless there is a rumor about someone leaving (usually someone who the particular fan doesn't like - it's called wish-listing), it's the same with Hart, during the window he was 'connected' with just about every club in existence (and even some that don't exist). We need to keep EVERY player we have - we don't have a 'squad' like Chelsea.

As others have pointed out, Hendrick may not want to stay and be a squad man, or he may feel Dyche has messed him about we just don't know. I think he's been a bit hard done by, his first season he showed some promise in centre mid and he's barely had the chance to play there since.

I'm not his biggest fan, but recognise he has played very well out wide, and contributed when called upon ladt season.

I do think he is worth a new deal, but suppose it all depends whether he can find a better offer elsewhere and/or more regular first team football in his preferred position.

Dyche/Club will decide his value I would imagine, the same as they did with Vokes and Heaton. He's a decent PL player imho but absolutely replaceable should we lose him, the cost of doing that might be prohibitive though

Valuable squad member and most effective on the right. Worth his 10M but certainly no 20 M, let's not get carried away ;)

You let me know where we can get a 6 foot tall midfielder, who can play pretty much any role across a midfield 4 or 5, and has played 100+ premier league games and is only 27, for less than 20 million in the current market.

He's the current 'David Jones' that's all.

When's he's gone they'll find someone else to complain about and completely fail to understand what they bring to the team.

I’d be upset too if I was on 40 K per week and a few fans didn’t rate me. I wouldnt put up with it and would be off sharpish. it will be about playing and nothing else. For the record I’m not a big fan.

He's in integral part of this team/squad primarily because he's equally effective in two quite specialist positions - which is unusual in itself.

Given the number of starts he's made it's obvious Dyche rates him. His role in our recovery post Christmas seems to have gone very much under the radar with all the attention focused on Heaton and McNeil.

There would be a good number of PL clubs massively interested if he became available. Amazing that so many people seem so blase about him leaving given that according to some Heaton's move to Villa guaranteed their survival and condemned us to certain relegation.

Realistically, who would people replace him with and how much do they think a similarly equipped player might cost?

Usual topic on here. We are evolving all the time but please try and be realistic. Hendrick is a better player than a lot give credit, he would cost a fair bit to replace, and secondly replace him with whom ? Give some names or comparisons to fill the void of versatility ?

Don't be surprised if they don't have recommendations for a replacement and costings.

They'll trot out the party line about it not being their job to replace him adequately.

You changed teams from Liverpool to Burnley when Burnley got promoted (your words not mine) but you think your view is more important on here than that of a real Burnley fan?

Personally would have him ahead of Cork on both age and ability.

The only problem is he often shows glimpses of what hes capable of but too incosistently.

Interestingly I'm more aware of how Burnley do their business, I see the what players like Jones and Hendrick bring to a team, I don't throw a massive tantrum for pretty much a whole seaaon when the club loses most of the away games that I didn't attend and nor do I snipe at the club with every opportunity despite the fact you look clueless when you do it.

If that is what makes a real fan then you're welcome to the label, because quite frankly you're an idiot.

I going to go all ABC here.
I’ve seen him covering for RB, on many occasions, and he has really fast feet for tackling. He regularly comes away with the ball when fronted up by decent wingers. I’d suggest he could even play there if called upon.

We always have this with the grafting midfielders. The ones that just keep their heads down and work. Fortunately SD has sense to realise you can never have too many in your squad.

Hendrick is more than capable of fitting SD’s fans for another three year deal here.
