Interesting stats

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Mon Aug 12, 2019 9:41 pm

About two players who many didnt want to start.

Barnes constant improvement in particular has been incredible. When he focuses on playing he is unstoppable.

Good stats. Agree that Barnes' improvement, season-on-season, has been just incredible and gradually he has been converting his critics. Just a brilliant player for us and, as has been commented on the thread dedicated to him, his touch and control whether with chest, thigh or feet is genuinely top class. Scores goals and also provides a great deal of brilliant comedy as he winds up the opposition...love the man.
The thread around a month or so ago on JBG really took me by surprise as s many people seem to view him as some kind of Chamionship-level journeyman not worth a place in the team. I've always viewed him as our most technically accomplished player and if we keep him injury free he is another massive PL quality asset.

Three top drawer finishes on Saturday - all technically excellent - a fact conveniently overlooked by Hassenhuttl as he desperately tried to divert attention away from his team's woeful defensive display in the second half.

The issue with both Barnes and Gudmundsson is that people tend to look at where they've come from and their route into the PL and make a judgement on their ability accordingly.

Not complaining because I want them here, not on the radar of bigger clubs but imagine those finishes in a game involving media favourites like say Leicester and Wolves - whose respective styles were described by the BBC as 'easy on the eye' on Sunday despite Leicester not registering a shot for 87 minutes - a lot more would have been made of the quality of those strikes than was actually the case.

They were impressed with and very complimentary about Barnes on MOTD.

I was probably one of Barnes biggest critics a few years ago. Not through lack of talent or hard work. But was so frustrating that he constantly looked either to foul or be fouled. When he focusses on playing he is a proper player. As he is continuing to show.

Him and Wood are just brilliant together.

Shearer, for me, nailed it on MOTD when he said Barnes now has the belief that he belongs in the Prem.

That belief counts for a hell of a lot when goal-scoring opportunities arise at this top level.

Nah, same with them folk who said that he's a 'red card waiting to happen'.

We'll be needing his 'acting roles' at the weekend, no doubt about it.

we all know how good Barnes is, the slugs in the media are way behind.
Including the slow witted pundits on the BBC.
The lazy ******* are about 4 years behind in their poxy assessments .

Another Barnes stat - his 34 premier league goals now has him tied with Aaron Lennon and Charlie Austin. I think (although stand to be corrected) that there are 6 ex-Clarets who have scored more Premier League goals in total.

And they are ...?

Depending whether you mean they scored the goals after they became ex-Clarets, Ian Wright would be one. Stephen Fletcher? Paul Gascoigne? Joey Barton? Jay Rodriguez perhaps was one until a few weeks ago? Peter Crouch, definitely.

Tough question. At a guess.

Ian Wright
Chris Waddle
Steven Fletcher
Andy Cole
Peter Crouch
Cant think of 6

Cole (187 goals) Wright (113) Crouch (108) and Fletcher (53) correct.

Actually just found another so there are seven in total - three to go.

When we signed JayRod I got really excited of the prospect of a JayRoad and Wood front line.

Wood with his Goal scoring ability and jayrod with his general skill and play.

I had brushed Barnes aside and expected him to be on the bench in the near future.

Clearly I’m a f*cking idiot and I will never have such thoughts again.

I’ve always supported Barnes and believed he’s our best striker. God know why I changed my mind. The mans just brilliant

To me, Barnes sums up all that's good about BFC - he personifies SD's footballing philosophy and I would absolutely hate to play against him.
