Re: Kathy Burke all woman
Saw the last half (having watched the documentary on Appleby's gipsy invasion) and thought it was very enjoyable. The pressures on young girls is huge and I went through a period worrying about might daughter who was bordering on anorexic. Thankfully she turned out fine and completely happy in her skin. I didn't like the smug Harley Street consultant.

If you get a chance to see her in the movie "Nil by mouth", you'll be astounded at her acting abilities. An absolute harrowing movie to watch in places of domestic violence being rained down on her.

Genuinely a national treasure.
As a (small r) republican, Burke, along with Blessed, Bobby Robson, and Rik Mayall (RIP) sits among my own British "royal" family.
Even in a small role like Connie in Tinker Tailor she really stole her scenes which wasnt a small feat given she shared many of them with Gary Oldman

For some reason she reminds me of Shaun Ryder.

She was indeed good in TTSP and it was the highlight for me. I'm not too keen on the remake. I much prefer the slow plodding pace of the 1970s TV series with Alec Guinness playing the part of George Smiley. My dad has it on DVD and I've borrowed it a couple of times. It's a masterpiece in scriptwriting and acting.

I'd say that both are crackingly good versions of a brilliant book. And I get the comments about Kathy Burke in the film too.Billy Balfour wrote:She was indeed good in TTSP and it was the highlight for me. I'm not too keen on the remake. Re: Kathy Burke all woman
Saw her on a tv prog recently with Shaun Ryder and she said that she has strong links to Manchester. Think it was the ‘As Yet Untitled’ programme with Alan Davies. Enjoyed the series, but by the nature of the show, there is a lot of variance in quality from show to show. Some guests handle the format better than others.
