Bloody English weather. I was planning to drive up to Northampton this evening for the T20 game v Lancashire. No chance of play there as it is forecast to rain until 8pm this evening

Had 'Plan A' (win at Edgbaston as we always do) worked, then it wouldn't matter!

Just enough time to get the ground ready before the next band arrives

Yes we could have done with this weather on day 5 at Edgbaston,i suppose if they trundles to a draw,England won't be too disheartened,the Aussies record at Lords is strong,and the next 2 tests are in the North,Headingley and OT,of course it never rains in those parts.

Second inspection due soon. At the moment it’s rewatching the Ashes in the 80’s!

My Brother sums it up ..... when England go on Tour, the home teams ground staff make a wicket to favour the home team (in theory) whereas our ground staff go out of their way to make a Wicket that favours the opposition

Toss was due at 3pm,but the rain's returned,and the covers are back on,looks like a washout given the forecast for the rest of the afternoon.

Thursday and Friday sound much more promising,so however wins the eventual toss has to bat 1st i'd have thought,bad news for England is this pitch looks like another spinning wicket,why on earth you'd produce 2 spinning tops on the bounce when the Aussies possess the threat of Nathan Lyon goodness knows.

We started with 10 (and let Moeen stand on the grass) then went down to 9 players after a few overs, we still have 10 left to contribute... hopefully

Beginning to wonder whether winning the one day world cup is actually a good thing for the English game as you get the feeling that we've completely neglected test match cricket as a result.

Good to see all the red at Lord's today. You can't expect the Aussies to ditch the baggy green but they've joined in with the red numbers.

As much as I agree with that, I think there is a bigger difference in batting than bowling between test and ODI cricket.

And you can’t deny that we don’t have enough batsmen who can apply themselves to test match cricket.

Totally agree, but not having enough patience or having the right mindset as well as not being good enough isn't the same as neglect.

not looking good again but in all probability it will end in a draw with the weather bound to effect it

Cummins and Hazlewood are getting plenty of bounce on this wicket,that bodes well for Jofra,once England come to bowl.

That dropping of Rory Burns is growing costly for Australia.

Denly isn’t good enough so is lucky to even be playing but there was nothing he could have done about that ball from hazlewood, it was a ripsnorter

It was a test we couldn't really win batting first, I cannot believe we have got in a position where we should probably lose.

Our batting line up seems to show a sheer lack of quality mixed with stupidity right through it

You don't think bringing in a one day specialist as coach like Bayliss has had an effect? I get the impression everything we've done the last few years has been with the World Cup in mind.
I was reading an article somewhere about how the Aussies have really focused on this Ashes series, encouraging their players to come and play county cricket etc. A lot of our lads have barely played any red ball stuff all sumner.

Bairstow and Woakes recovering the score somewhat,if England could get 300 at least it would give Archer and co something to bowl with.

Another excellent knock by Burns,he is developing into a decent test opener now,as for Roy that experiment's clearly failed,haven't a clue who could replace though,and that's the problem England have.

210-6 with still 30+ overs due today,if England are still batting at the close of play,they would consider that relatives success.

Woakes out. No way the umpire knew he had touched that. Both he and the Aussies very lucky there even if it was the right decision.

Nasser Hussein called the dismissal after he had been hit on the head. Basically saying he will try and paddle sweep the ball down on the leg side, which brings caught off the glove into play. Good call.

How come Cummins was allowed to bowl a full over of bouncers at Woakes? I know the spirit of the game means nothing to the Australians but surely the limit is still two an over???

He just keeps going. Absolutely peppering Archer (which might not be the brightest idea).

258 seems at least 50 light, even after being put in. A couple of wickets this evening would even things up a bit though. Then have another crack in the morning
