Barnsley only shoved him off
Re: Arse + Ref - VAR versus MIGHTY CLARETS
If we play to that level for the rest of the season we will be fine. Just got beat by a moment of class from their top striker. Can't fault the fact that we had a go at them and gave them plenty to think about. Arsenal should have finished the game off early on in the 2nd half, but Burnley hung on in there. Plenty in that performance for Sean and the team to be encouraged about. Onwards and upwards.

Right result, lads played really well so should hold their heads up.
Sloppy with crosses first half didn't really create second half, but always in it. We'll have easier games ahead.

I think that what that performance showed us is that we went to Arsenal and gave them a game, and we looked far from relegation material and very much like we belong in the top division. Well done lads

Re: Arse + Ref - VAR versus MIGHTY CLARETS
Very much a nearly performance and we battled really, really well against an Arsenal side which has cost shed loads, but hasn't yet properly gelled. HOWEVER, everything which has been written about our midfield and Cork in particular on here over the summer was there for all to see today. The midfield is EXTREMELY hard working and they graft and graft and graft and never stop, BUT there is no creativity and Cork is so slow I often think I'm watching a slow mo replay rather than live action. JBG, who I've always been a fan of, now looks out of his depth and produces little of note and the only spark worthy of the name comes from McNeil. After all the fanfare Jay Rod had absolutely no impact and for all his excellent work and the torrid time he gave David Luis, what Barnes did right at the death was absolutely stupid as we had one last promising attack going and he ended it. I'm left somewhat deflated as I felt Arsenal were not that great for long periods of the game and we didn't show the calmness and quality to exploit it and rather let them off.

Plenty of effort but just a lack of quality by us.

If we can get a fit Drinkwater in for Cork we'll be much stronger.

I AM being serious. I really, really like him and there was a time when his backtracking and his defensive side was matched by his ability to create and to take people on and to get dangerous balls across. Today he offered nothing creative and was actually caught out doing his defensive stuff and they scored their second. Even last week I honestly thought he did little of note until he suddenly did brilliantly to nick that ball off the defender and supply a sublime finish.Spijed wrote:You might catch a few with that one.

I disagree. He does LOADS of tidying up which isn't pretty, but needs doing, granted, but when we have decent situations going forward he is painfully slow in thought and deed and other teams know this.SussexDon1inIreland wrote:I thought Cork was great today especially in the first half
Re: Arse + Ref - VAR versus MIGHTY CLARETS
That's just it. He scored a great goal last week and that's the level of opposition against whom he should be judged.Dark Cloud wrote:I AM being serious. Re: Arse + Ref - VAR versus MIGHTY CLARETS
He didn't have a poor game at all, even though he coughed the ball up for their winner.Spijed wrote:You might catch a few with that one.
Yet again on several occasions he ruined good opportunities by cutting back onto his left peg when an early right foot cross would have been the better option. This is his biggest failing for me and it's not like he can't deliver off his right side he has done so many times.
The overall performance was top class. The best I've seen us against a top 6 side for sustained getting the ball forward and getting bodies up to help. The defensive organisation is exceptional and they needed a midfield error to breach us.

Re: Arse + Ref - VAR versus MIGHTY CLARETS
I take your point re the level of opposition, but tbh anyone watching today's game must be disappointed we didn't get something in the end because despite their attacking pace and flair, Arsenal were still there to be scored against imo. How I saw JBG last week reminded me of how I often see Wood. He CAN pop up and score some extremely important goals, but for the other 89 minutes contributes very little. JBG did score a great goal last week, but for the rest of the 2 matches so far he's done very little.Spijed wrote:That's just it. Re: Arse + Ref - VAR versus MIGHTY CLARETS
Was the decision correct for Mee's hand ball that led up to the goal?
I thought it would have gone to VAR and the benefit of doubt should have gone to Mee.
Looking at the replay the ball didn't look like it hit his hand at all and he was moving out the way.
Clutching at straws because they probably would have scored anyway and we should have defended the following corner better but still, I feel like if VAR is there we should have the option to challenge a decision like that.

Well on my way back to Salisbury.
Clarets played very well and looked dangerous at times. No idea why Arse insist on trying to play put from the back. Sure occasionally but every time just led to us camping in numbers. Barmy.
That Irish chap was a pain in the Arse - O'Bam 'o yang
No idea where Yang is!
