HILL SPECIAL CYCLES

Post by Foreverly Claret » Mon Aug 19, 2019 4:16 pm

When I was a lad growing up in Burnley I was the very proud possessor of a Hill Special Racing Bike .I bought it second hand from a guy who lived on Plumbe Street .Sadly I let it go later when my employer moved me to Leeds...to a lad who lived on a farm in Cliviger .I really would like another but they are like RHS to find...just a frame would do so I could build it up to my own spec...love to hear from anyone who has got one or could point me in the right direction .Its a small world...the lad who sits behind me in the Jimmy Mac took over Ossie Jackson's shop in Nelson where I used to buy most of my racing gear....he's looking out for one for me but the more the merrier.

Fascinating article. My father a Padiham man, told me he was employed producing cycles in the 1930s many of which were sold to either the Irish police force or post office, perhaps this was the business where he worked.

Can remember as a teenager going to a small workshop in Padiham where Hills cycles were made...think it was in a building on the right behind the shops as you go up the hill towards the church...531 tubing sticks in my memory. I.think that is what the frames were made from..very lightweight at the time.

Cheers to the OP for raising the topic and the link at post2.
Searching I came across this link to Johnny Kay and his bikes made on Bank St. Rawtenstall.
