I know a few people will be offended on here on behalf of people with tourette's. I doubt everybody with tourette's found the joke offensive only the crap comedian complaining. Most would probably just laugh at the daft joke.

Re: You can't be serious.
Good opportunity for a comedian nobody has ever heard of to get some publicity.
It’s a crap joke anyway - at least I thought so, but I saw the punchline coming a mile off.

Sadly we can be serious
Laughter is the best medicine and we are restricting humour as a result of the PC brigade to just pure nonsense
No doubt Morecambe and Wise quip “She was a very big woman you know. Turned over one night in bed caught her husband at the back of the neck and killed him stone dead. Took the undertaker 2 days to get the coffin lid down”
No doubt that offends overweight women and recently deceased as well as well endowed men.

Re: You can't be serious.
I thought it was a pretty funny joke to be honest.
I’m sure that there was no offence intended and it was simply a pun type joke.
Unfortunately it is a Tourette’s charity that has taken offence claiming they have had people with Tourette’s upset about this - so that does need to be taken into account if it’s true.
The irony I suppose is that many people with Tourette’s (through obviously no fault of their own) will shout out very offensive things - which can be racist, sexist etc. Of course they mean no offence - but some people will be offended. In this case most rational people will agree that anyone who feels offended is in the wrong because the person with Tourette’s mean no offence and cannot control what they are saying.
The comedian can of course control what they are saying so not sure where that leaves us. It’s not as simple as saying that we are not offended as we are not people with Tourette’s.

My favourite joke goes like this:
I used to play the triangle in a band but had to give it up..... it was just one ting after another!

Funny joke. Of all the things to be offended about? I strongly suspect its simply a ploy from the charity and the "offended" comedian to get some publicity / be asked onto the radio etc

Never heard or seen Jess Thom's act, but I'd be very surprised if she didn't use that fact that she has Tourette's as part of it
Re: You can't be serious.
Presumably what they're after is that people with Tourette's should be taken off the "normal people that you can joke about" list and put on to the "not like us so don't mention them" list. Rightly or wrongly.

Re: You can't be serious.
It's a crap joke, for me. Of the ones on offer, the anti-depressants one was the best I thought. I can imagine how many complaints that one would have got
It's not offensive to me. I take on board the comments by sufferers including one whose story was on TV. It was by turn awful, touching and funny. Although I don't know him, I think I saw enough of him to get a measure of him and he wasn't wallowing in self-pity. But it was tough. He thought the joke was off. So, I take it on board. I respect his right to be unhappy with it but it's a million miles from offensive enough to merit censure or censorship.

Re: You can't be serious.
Wasn't it Swedish comedian Olaf Falafel who cracked the joke.wilks_bfc wrote:Never heard or seen Jess Thom's act, but I'd be very surprised if she didn't use that fact that she has Tourette's as part of it
Last years was better... I wasn't close to my Dad when he died which is just as well as he stood on a land mine.

Yes it was his joke.
I was referring to the comedian that was “offended” by it, who has Tourettes herself.
