Re: England v Australia 3rd Ashes Test
They've given themselves a chance, that's for sure still 120 to win but Lyon apart the bowling not been that threatening today,so as long as they play sensibly and don't gift wickets it's definitely on,the Aussies will come out firing post-lunch,but get through the first half-hour and they might start to flag,it's only a 3 man pace attack.Steve1956 wrote:Might have to eat my words here, game on a knife edge well played Bairstow/Stokes.

I think everyone from supporters and commentators, including Boycott & Vaughan will have to eat their words if England win.Steve1956 wrote:Might have to eat my words here, game on a knife edge well played Bairstow/Stokes.
However, it doesn't disguise the fact that we have a team full of one day cricketers playing test match cricket which needs to be addressed.

Re: England v Australia 3rd Ashes Test
The encouragement for England is the afternoon is normally the easiest time to bat,That's when run scoring's been easier, and the sun's out so the ball shouldn't do a lot,the problem could be Lyon'he's turned a few,but if we can negate him,we could be going to OT 1-1,be great for the series if that happened.FCBurnley wrote:If these 2 can bat for another hour we will be in great shape

Re: England v Australia 3rd Ashes Test
Poor shot selection from Bairstow. Why did he go for that?
Re: England v Australia 3rd Ashes Test
That was a bad shot, no real need to play, he's already got a lucky 4 and an out overturned, the bowler was getting mad, should just be leaving them and mounting the pressure.
We needed him there into the double figures.
115 needed with 5 wickets remaining
245/5

He was right to hit the ball but he made no effort to keep it down.
Very poor execution and no foot movement.

No need to even try and hit it, given the state of the game.

Just when you think there is half a chance, the English batsmen draw out the .44 Magnum, take aim at their own foot and squeeze the trigger

Less than 100 needed.

Re: England v Australia 3rd Ashes Test
The Buttler dismissal tells us just everything we already knew about this team.
One day mentality applied to 5 day Test Cricket.
5 wickets in hand, just 100 needed, more than 4 sessions to go and they both set off for a run that wasn't there.
Stokes has to win this now, but all Buttler had to do to as the non-striker was watch the ball stay in his ground and say firmly "NO".
Buttler might have become hero this evening. Now his future in test cricket looks in doubt.

Re: England v Australia 3rd Ashes Test
Woakes another one out to an unnecessary loose shot. No need to play at that but they simply can't help but play 1 day shots. 3 wickets lost in half an hour or so and most likely the series gone.

All they had to do was stay in and support Stokes, crazy half hour post lunch.Never give the Aussies a sniff.
Better hope Jofra can conjure more magic.

Re: England v Australia 3rd Ashes Test
I think it's fair to say that both Jason Roy & Jos Buttler have about as much chance of becoming good test match players as Nick Pope has of becoming a top class striker.
Neither should ever be considered for Test match cricket again!

These two have added 16,target's down to 82,so there's still hope,if it gets down to 50/60 and there still together could get interesting.

Terrible shot. 3 slips in and his bat was horizontal. We only need 110+. All day to chip away at that.Quickenthetempo wrote:He was right to hit the ball but he made no effort to keep it down.

Bosscat, post 332. Buttler did not make the call. Stokes made the call and then sent him back, just been confirmed again by commentators showing replays.

Re: England v Australia 3rd Ashes Test
Yes, but in a Test match, and in this situation you should read the game properly, don't leave your crease, and firmly call "no".Vino blanco wrote:Bosscat, post 332. Buttler did not make the call. In the olden days someone in Buttler's position would have probably turned his back with an attitude of "you run yourself out if you want to but I'm not moving".

What a stupid, stupid thing to do. You just got away with two boundaries and you try a big hit with the last ball of the over? Clueless

I love Jofra but that was daft especially off the last bowl of the over,he'd hit 2 fours, just block it out.Everytime we give ourselves a chance we do something daft.

I remember TY saying Butler was one of the best in the world and I suggested he wasn’t top 20, yes he’s got a world class innings in him but he’s not top 20

England must have the biggest collection of brain dead batsmen in international cricket. Why play shots like that?

Re: England v Australia 3rd Ashes Test
245-4 to 286-9 another collapse,Stokes will have to play a few shots now i guess,if he gets the chance.
You have to feel for Ben he's carrying this side with the bat far too often,he's batted for 5 and a half hours, all he should expect is somebody to stick with him, this match was winnable on this pitch with a bit of commonsense.
