Re: Oldham Athletic vs Burnley
First Sunday game was at Millwall in 1983 - we lost 2-0.4:20 wrote:Is it true that the Sheff U TV game was the first time we played on a Sunday? I remember Mullen playing up to the cameras, the result, watching it back when me and my dad got home and laughing our heads off at the size of John Gayles flob.
That Sheffield United game was shown live in the Granada & Yorkshire areas only. The commentary team (Elton Welsby & Lou Macari I think) were in a box built at the back of the Bee Hole End.

Don't know where I got that one from, thanks for the clarification.ClaretTony wrote:First Sunday game was at Millwall in 1983 - we lost 2-0.

I remember that box, took out a few rows of steps at the top of the terrace, made a 12 year old me think we were in the big time, a purpose built studio on Turf Moor!

It was the commentator in the Sheffield United game who erroneously said it was our first ever Sunday game. Didn't we also play the 1994 play-off final on a Sunday?
Mullen was definitely playing up to the cameras when we played Sheffield United. He was interviewed at half time and I could swear he'd been on the sauce. He could hardly speak.
