Name the Player
This player featured in pre-season for Burnley in 2008 but we didn't sign him.
Who is it and which English club did he play for?

It's Alexander Sovoloj (or as near as dammit - it can't be right because I tried to google that to cheat to see who he played for...)
I assume he played for Blackpool being latvian.

Re: Name the Player
I'll accept the name - it is Aleksandrs Solovjovs and his one English club was Nantwich. He's also won seven full caps for Latvia. The pic was against Glentoran.duncandisorderly wrote:It's Alexander Sovoloj (or as near as dammit - it can't be right because I tried to google that to cheat to see who he played for...)

Nantwich?! Never in a month of sundays would I have got that.
That pictured game is Glentoran and I remember the old board being reasonably excited about his potential signing.

Some good photos on this of the game (including one of Jimmy Mac chatting to Billy Bingham)
A young Jay Rod celebrating a goal? with Steve Jones and Ade Akinbiye

Re: Name the Player
The reception these two former players received from the crowd that night was memorable. I did get the chance to speak to Billy Bingham after the game while edison was speaking to Jimmy Mac.

Re: Name the Player
I do believe a certain Owen Doyle(?) played for that night too.
He possibly even scored and might have set up Jay’s goal.
I accidentally sat in the seat reserved for the guest on honour (Jimmy Mac) and I’ve still got the Glentoran beer mat from the directors lounge somewhere.
