OK to counter the "Favourite Lager" thread how about Favourite Beer (as in real ale or whatever....)

I will start with my favourite.

Another one for Doom Bar, plus Jail Ale.

Bowland Hen Harrier or Pheasant Plucker.

Bass in a barrel glass from the Rifles

Most pale ales, the more pale it is, the better.

That said Ionce had a creme brulee porter/stout. That was simply delicious.

For some reason Doom Bar doesn't agree with me, it's not my favourite.

As a young lad it was a pint of Wilsons Bitter, pure nectar if looked after. What about Stones Bitter, anyone remember that ?
Many more on the market these days, don't mind 1 or 2 of the Hobgoblin beers, black sheep another that comes to mind ain't that bad.

Havn't heard of Doom Bar, who brews it ?

Doom Bar is brewed in Rock, in Cornwall. It's a bit sweet for my taste.

My favourite is my local beer, Jennings Bitter.

They still sell it at the shop on hargrove avenue down Pendle way (stones that is)

Love a Hobgoblin, especially the IPA.

Most of my all-time favourites have been limited run beers, but one of my favourite core lines from any brewer is Rivington's 'Never Known Fog Like It'.

If you are ever over here try a Rebel Red. Brewed by Franciscan Well in Cork.

Not specific in a single drink, but I find pretty much anything by the following breweries well worth seeking out & trying (cask, keg, can, bottle) - Verdant, Cloudwater, Neonraptor, Polly's Brew Co, Pentrich, Wylam, North Riding, Tiny Rebel, North Brewing, Black Iris, Vocation, etc...
Favourites so far this year - perhaps Verdant "Fruit, Car, Sight, Exhibition" (can), Neonraptor "I Am Romulus" (keg), Pentric "Dead Earth" (cask) & North Riding "Fudge Brownie Stout" (cask).

Fantastic beer. Verdant have pretty quickly become one of my favourite breweries.

Not a Real ale drinker but I certainly enjoy Moorhouses white witch and Some like it Blonde from Worsthorn brewery.

So many to choose from, can't beat a pint of real ale when it's kept and poured properly in a pub that knows how to look after their beer.

Doom Bar cask is brewed in Rock, the bottled stuff is brewed in Burton on Trent by Marstons. It is the real ale equivalent of Carling and Fosters - mass produced and generally not very good. The kindest thing I can say is at least it is better than Greene King IPA, though the same could be said about the contents of the average septic tank.

Jennings is decent stuff, though another brewery taken over by Marstons. They have so far resisted the temptation to close the brewery and relocate to Burton and completely ruin it. Sneck Lifter is a particular favourite of mine.

Actually if any of you get the chance to try Stay Puft, by Tiny Rebel then it's worth a taste.. Its a marshmallow porter.

That said, doe anyone know what a marshmellow porter is?

Moorhouse's Blonde or White Witch.

Their Scaredy Cat IPA is also frigteningly easy to drink.

That comment was in relation to GK IPA which is truly the most bland, insipid, flavourless p!ss water you could have the misfortune to ever drink. Many pubs around me are GK and it is omnipresent. It's either the guest ale, Guinness or find another pub depending on the circumstances.

Irwell Works do a Marshmallow stout.

It’s like drinking a Mars bar

Sharp's, who brew Doom Bar, are owned by Molson Coors. Personally I find it too sweet for my tastes.

Although there is a lot of good stuff from the new microbreweries I find a lot of them can be a bit challenging to drink more than a pint or so of and not much is better than a decent pint of proper ale. Some of my long-term favourites are:

St Austell - Tribute
Timothy Taylor's - Landlord
St Peter's - Golden Ale and Mild
Fuller's - ESB
Redemption - HopSpur
Hogs Back - TEA
Tiny Rebel - Stay Puft

(Although anything by the above breweries is likely to be good.)

Doom Bar used to be great but has been grim since the conglomerates got their hands on it

If we're talking ale, I do like a Moorhouses Premier (especially in the New Inn Clitheroe).

For some reason I can't stand anything made by Bowland. One of the worst pints I've ever had was in Holmes Mill. In fact I've never had a decent pint there.

About 20 years ago you couldn't beat the "Cream of Manchester" a pint of boddies,it's shite nowadays,more recently I've been trying the local breweries of Fife which are just starting up and put quality before quantity.....most of the mass produced stuff is much of a muchness,you can't even get a decent pint of Guinness in most pubs these days.

They also do a salted caramel version that I really enjoyed. Might be a bit sickly to have more than one or two of, though.

Hard to choose a favourite.

But I will mention Copper Dragon's Golden Pippin.

In fact any of their brews are good.

Hobgoblin is good. I’m really into my Brewdog at the moment, particularly Elvis Juice and Punk IPA.

They had a nice one on down in the fan zone last season, Claret something or other. Really nice I thought.

In the real world It's a toss up between Black Sheep or Copper Dragon, but too warm at the moment for either; that said Pacific Brewing Co's Maui and more especially their Tiki brew are the best we've found in the last 5-6000 miles.
