Re: Villa v Everton
Anyone else noticed Villa defending formation very similar to ours?
Loads of blocks.
Two banks of players tight etc

Marco Silva - how on earth did he get the Everton job as he did nowt at Hull apart from getting them relegated, and he hardly did a great job at Watford, except down tools.

I think with managers like these they give the illusion of being good, with apparent good football, on the ground, pass-pass-pass, and somehow the "bigger" clubs will fall for it.Spijed wrote:Marco Silva - how on earth did he get the Everton job as he did nowt at Hull apart from getting them relegated, and he hardly did a great job at Watford, except down tools.
Dyche would do a good job at an Everton.

He's got a 50% win rate over his career of over 300 games. At Everton he averages 1.5 pts per game with a win rate over 40%
He is obviously a good manager with a good record who you have some weird obsession with

His win rate with Everton isn't that impressive given that, other than BFS, it's the lowest of any Everton manager since Walter Smith.Devils_Advocate wrote:He's got a 50% win rate over his career of over 300 games. At Everton he averages 1.5 pts per game with a win rate over 40%

Re: Villa v Everton
Given that other than BFS there has only been three other managers of which one was David Moyes who is one of their best managers in the last 50 years Id say its not that great a stat. The other tewo were Martinez and Koeman who were both pretty highly rated and successful managers at the timeTall Paul wrote:His win rate with Everton isn't that impressive given that, other than BFS, it's the lowest of any Everton manager since Walter Smith.
Another way of looking at is excluding caretakers only 3 of the last 12 Everton managers have a better record that Silva does

Not bad given a relegation season in that.Devils_Advocate wrote:Dyche has a 29% win rate in the Prem League
One stat I do know is we’ve won 1.44 points per game under Dyche, that’s all league games from Oct 2012.

I make it 5 out of 12. Koeman, Martinez, Moyes, Harvey and Kendall. It's not really fair to compare over such different eras though, which is why I only went back as far as Moyes.Devils_Advocate wrote:Given that other than BFS there has only been three other managers of which one was David Moyes who is one of their best managers in the last 50 years Id say its not that great a stat. As I said earlier I think Dyche's stats are fantastic and that he's a fantastic manager. Some people just seem to struggle to give anyone outside our club any credit and Silva is a good manager who's had a good career and is doing ok at Everton (so far)ClaretTony wrote:Not bad given a relegation season in that.

I was looking at managers spells as Harver and Kendall both had awful follow up spells.Tall Paul wrote:I make it 5 out of 12. Koeman, Martinez, Moyes, Harvey and Kendall. It's not really fair to compare over such different eras though, which is why I only went back as far as Moyes.

Either way I think to suggest Silva isnt a good manager with a good management record who so far is doing a decent job at Everton is just not accurate (I know it wasnt you who suggested this but this is the point I have been arguing against)

Nimani had one decent game for us when he scored in the reserve league win against Blackburn. Other than that I couldn’t see even a non league footballer in him.Darthlaw wrote:All I’ve seen him do is commit fouls, pass to Villa players and break down Everton attacks. I don't think Silva is doing a decent job really, he's doing no better than his predecessors who were fired for underperforming.

Yes on them stats you are right think id included a couple of caretakers.Tall Paul wrote:Harvey only managed Everton once.

On your other point Martinez had been there 3 years and had been successful but as happens in football results change and you get fired. He definitely wasnt perforing at +40% win rate the final year in fact is was under 30%
Same with Koeman he had a successful season and then only won 2 games in 10 the next season which is why he got sacked
Silva is on a par with when his predecessors they were deemed to be doing a good job. If his win rate stays around 40% I guarantee Silva will not get fired.
If the expectation is for Silva to be considered to be doing OK he has to break the top 6 then just just shows how ridiculous expectations are in football and its no wonder the turnover of managers is what it is
