No Vokesy in Stoke squad today
No Vokesy in Stoke squad today
Is he injured or out of favour at the Championship’s bottom club ?

I think Jones has lost the plot to be honest. Blasted his players in midweek and then made wholesale changes today. Won't be there much longer.

Jones is tapped. Buys Vokes then 6 months later brings in Hogan for 10 million plus to play the same role. Gets rid of Pieters and brings in Ward, 2 years older. Yet tells the fans last year he was all about youth hence alienating 6 players immediately after walking through the door.

Re: No Vokesy in Stoke squad today
Both Stoke and Hull have dipped quite a bit since their drop from the PL.
Both well beaten today (and Hull suffering the humiliation of being beaten in midweek by Venkys).

Just noticed Butland,Allen and Hogan on the bench today.
Cant see Jones lasting much longer as manager there

He's played one game so far. Vokes was on the bench midweek, I think he came on late.Murger wrote:Ward wasn't even on the bench in midweek.

He’s only made 7 appearances
When you have a experienced players such as Federici, Clucus & McClean starting, that’s a hell of a move.
As others have said can’t see Jones being there much longer

Wonder how many Stoke fans who demanded a change in playing style are regretting it now!?

What are Pulis or Allardyce doing?

Vokes and Ward gone from playing in Europe to not even making the squad in the Championship - that's fairly incredible

Considering the way Pulis has vacuumed all the spirit out of Boro, they’re probably mindful that it’s more down to poor recruitment rather than actually having the temerity to see their team trying to play football.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote:Wonder how many Stoke fans who demanded a change in playing style are regretting it now!?

Not sure what he did at Boro has to do with his record at Stoke??Swizzlestick wrote:Considering the way Pulis has vacuumed all the spirit out of Boro, they’re probably mindful that it’s more down to poor recruitment rather than actually having the temerity to see their team trying to play football.

Re: No Vokesy in Stoke squad today
He was potted at Stoke because his tactics became stale and the relentless grinding football was just too much. This was evidenced in his most recent managerial stint at Boro, so it has a lot to do with it.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote:Not sure what he did at Boro has to do with his record at Stoke??
Stoke are where they are because they’ve made poor choices in both managerial and player recruitment, not because they deviated from PulisBall. They finished top 10 in the Prem in 3 consecutive seasons after he left playing a more progressive style.

Re: No Vokesy in Stoke squad today
Lets be honest players have succeeded at Burnley cos theyve fitted into the specific way Dyche wants to manage things
Ash Barnes would prob struggle to get into a top 10 Championship side (never mind the Prem) so its no wonder players like Vokes drop like a stone once their not honed exactly to the Dyche way
Barnes, Hendrick, Bardsley, Long, Peters wouldnt get near any other Prem side but we have the Dyche factor and 100% that is why we keep staying up (despite how poor our team is getting in context to the other 19 clubs)

Not fancied by a manager that wants to play football, and if we are being honest, he is only a very average striker in that league for a manager who wants to play long ball anyway
Re: No Vokesy in Stoke squad today
Absolutely, theres always an issue when managers get ideas above their station, or Arnett able to step up and manage the multiple million pound players and/,egos at the next club.NottsClaret wrote:Luton seemed to have coped without him managing them.

Re: No Vokesy in Stoke squad today
Apparently in talks over a loan move to Rangers according to friends in Scotland.
Not seen anything reported anywhere.
So he would go from the bench at stoke to the bench at ibrox

Re: No Vokesy in Stoke squad today
Not many players leave Burnley and go on to better their playing careers, although many better their salaries. Tripper, Keane and to a lesser extent Ings being notable exceptions.

Sam is not popular down there judging by a mate of mine that supports Stoke. I expect SG understands more how to make the most of Sam so hope a loan is agreed.

Re: No Vokesy in Stoke squad today
It didn't start well for Vokesy down there, sadly. I THINK he missed a penalty, which isn't like him, in his first or second game. Then he actually scored early in another game, but was promptly injured and laid up for a spell. He's since missed another penalty (I THINK?) and been somewhat on the fringe and the fans haven't really seen the best of him so unsurprisingly don't rate him. He'd be good at Rangers imo.

So are we in agreement that it seems getting 8 million for Vokes was a good move by the club now?

Btw, I’d have Vokes back here if Stoke want rid.

Re: No Vokesy in Stoke squad today
That's news to me,i can only see a loan deal for Sam if Morelos moves for big money, the fact that Scotty is thriving at Ibrox might play a part in Sam's decision.and the lure of EL football is a big pull.ayrshireclaret83 wrote:Apparently in talks over a loan move to Rangers according to friends in Scotland.

I agree with the wider point you’re making, but this is a ludicrous assertion, imho.Devils_Advocate wrote:Lets be honest players have succeeded at Burnley cos theyve fitted into the specific way Dyche wants to manage things

Re: No Vokesy in Stoke squad today
Sam Vokes is one of the reasons we are playing Premier League football.
Hes a class act who will score for fun given service
Stoke we pxxx poor v PNE and claerly no better v Dirty Leeds.
They lack leadership on the pitch and even Joe Allen looks a shadow of his former self

Jones said the strange thing of he's not getting the best out of his team at the moment but doesn't know if he's failing? after yesterdays game.
He won't last long.

Re: No Vokesy in Stoke squad today
Sam Vokes was, IMO, one of the best headers of the ball in the PL. He is a great example of the coaching, manager's loyalty to players and team spirit at Turf Moor where the "whole is greater than the sum of the parts". Perhaps buyers should beware.

Re: No Vokesy in Stoke squad today
I was saying the same yesterday. Jones doesn't seem to know how to handle bigger name players (compared to Luton) he shipped loads on this summer, and said now is the time to judge him.ClaretTony wrote:I think Jones has lost the plot to be honest. He blasted Butland, said Ince shouldn't shoot from range cause he's poor at it, dropped Allen.. publicly criticised his own players,. I know he's really feeling the pressure but it won't be long before he loses the players (if not already) I know he's already started to lose the Stoke fans.
Felt sorry for Butland, keepers can make a mistake at anytime.. and he did look gutted at Deepdale last week. Yet Jones ripped into him and his speculation/ missed England call up.
