McNeil

Post by ClaretAL » Sun Aug 25, 2019 7:39 pm

Probably going to get shot at here, but if Brady is fit i think its time Mcneil had a rest, in the first 3 matches he has looked a little lethargic going forward and definitely coming backward, but thats not to knock the lad, as his vision and some touches are just absolute top drawer, he just doesn't seem to have an engine in him at the moment, and probably needs to get some of the adrenaline back from playing in the first team, rather than being a given.

Haven’t seen todays match yet but seen his headed assist for Barnes goal and that’s why he is in.
Admittedly looked shot after 60mins the first two matches but he might be a slow starter, in a new season.
Certainly not the time to drop him. What message does that send out?
Brady still hasn’t found his pre-injury form, which was excellent.

Dyche probably would have subbed him earlier if it wasn't for Gudmundsson's injury. He seemed to lack the physicality to win or retain the ball in the later stages of the second half when we desperately needed to play the game in the final third a bit more.

Thought he had a decent first half though.

We were seconds away from going third and you want to drop our most creative player? Good one...

Brady cannot last enough minutes. He'll be injured again before you know it, so we have to rely on McNeil. Like I said before GW1, we need some luck and that luck is that Pope doesn't get injured this season and McNeil doesn't.

Bring Brady in - he'll be injured after 3 games. No thanks.

Thought he had a good first half, certainly better than JGB on the other half who's most noticable contribution for me was getting caught in possession. I think the heat played a part today in the second half - the lad did look exhausted.

Could it be that he is finding it a bit more difficult to play in front of Pieters rather than Taylor? I think the way they worked together last season helped bring the best out of McNeil.

2 assists in first 3 games of the season and he should be dropped.

Oh and he gives it away too much according to some.

He's not at his best so far but don't see that as a problem and definitely shouldn't be left out of the team. He's been better, overall, than JBG.

Genuinely think its McNeil's style. Bit like Glen Little. Looks lethargic and even sluggish at times. But then does things you wouldn't expect especially in tight spaces.

He is our best crosser and already has 2 or 3 assists.

Really cannot believe some fans. Last season he was an unknown quantity. This season he isnt, all clubs know he is our number 1 creator. Therefore thwy are marking him better and giving him less time on the ball. Yet he has still made chances and assisted twice. No chance should we be looking at dropping him. Just by having a defence that marks him helps our other forward thinking players have a little more space and time on the ball.

I think if you read again mate you will see I totally agree on his technical ability and it isn't meant to degrade him, far from it. What I am saying is his stamina seems a little off, and granted it was unbelievably hot yesterday, but the rest of the players had more stamina than him, to the point he was pointing for the ball to be passed in a different direction than himself, and was definitely not living up to his defensive tracking back part of the game. I still have total belief that we have an absolute diamond on our hands, and enjoy watching him in our team, but last year he had the adrenaline of being in the first team to drive him on, but now he has had all the plaudits, he needs desire.

Have you any stats to back up your claim?

He seemed to do alright running fully down the wing with the ball against 3 of them to me.

He's not in his most scintillating form but he's only really played a handful of games in his career in the grand scheme of things. He is also seemingly being marked a little tighter than last year, that should open up some space for other players though

I guessed that, but there's that many stats available these days. Might be worth checking as it's not something you can really tell from the stand.
Unless you only focus on him of course.
