TARKS & MEE

Post by warksclaret » Mon Aug 26, 2019 9:34 am

Having watched them yesterday and seen the Southampton and Arsenal game (full 90 minute version)these two seem to be at their peak. Their understanding is fantastic and they are both hard nuts when it comes to a challenge. Yesterday they were outstanding and if Southgate saw Tarks play yesterday he will be in the next squad

They look so strong.
I thought the midfield looked stronger yesterday too.

I can see them both in Southgates next squad. Tarks is a shoe-in and Ben has earned it.

I think the interaction between these and Cork Westwood was a key feature. Jack still has the tendancy to lose it and get bullied off it, and McNeil has a tendancy to lose it in vulnerable positions. Have to say I think Peters is a great edition. He seems comfy on the ball

Imperious tbh.

How often do you say one of these two could’ve done better. Tarky is an absolute beast of a defender and there was a tackle he made at the Emirates that was just ‘Wow’. There was also a tackle that Mee made yesterday that was ‘Wow’.

There is probably only one prem defender that I would swap one of ours for and that’s Virgil....

Both Ben and tarks are as good as if not better than maguire. Bit cheeky of Leicester not to cough up £50m for Tarkowski when they banked a lot more for maguire

I certainly can't see how Maguire is regarded as being a better player than Tarkowski on current form.

Maguire stood out a bit in his appearances for England by playing the ball out of defenders but let’s remember opposing sides were happy for him to have the ball

Crazily enough, I think Maguire stood out with his attacking threat, not how good he was in defence.

Said it for a while they are a great pairing and there will not be many better in this league. Let down yesterday with strikers missing relatively easy chances and a bit of a clumsy challenge and a con on a poor referee.

Maguire £85 million. How much these two?

Arguably the best pairing in the Prem at the moment, based on this seasons form.

Both been fantastic so far. I said on another thread how sharp, fit and focussed Tarks has looked in the opening three games. He’s playing like he’s got a point to prove and if that leads to a place in England’s Euro 2020 squad and a big money transfer next summer then that means that we will more than likely have had a very good season.

Van Dyke and Matip to name the obvious one.

Whilst that's true, on current form they don't look a good as they did last season, especially in the recent game against Southampton, when a two goal lead was near thrown away, due to poor goalkeeping and defensive errors.

Agree with all of the positive comments about Mee and Tarkowski - would add Pope's importance too.

I'm sure some people were concerned (I was) whether he'd be as good as he was pre-injury but so far he's made a very positive comeback and the fact that he can be relied on to come and collect crosses and lofted balls must be a huge help to the centre backs in allowing them to focus on the game in front of them.

Not too sure about that personally. Their keeper is single handedly responsible for one of the three goals conceded. Let’s not forget that both Van Dyke and Matip have got on the score sheet as well.

Tarks and Ben are fantastic in the Burnley system where they are often under pressure for long periods of a game. England play a different style and are usually faced with international teams that sit back. This suits the likes of Maguire, Keane, Gomez and Stones who are comfortable moving forward - and that is why they will be picked ahead of our two.

My only concern is if Tarks keeps this up, then one of the top sides who need to bolster their defence in the January window will be in for him. On a positive Man U have now made it acceptable to buy a top CH for around the £70-£80m

Tarkowski is pretty comfortable bringing the ball out of defence as we saw on numerous occasions yesterday. On the form we’ve seen this season I’d have him in the England squad ahead of Stones and Keane.

IF the rumours are true though, £50m will trigger his release clause meaning we couldn't demand more if Tarky wanted to leave.

And how do you think those two would perform at tge heart of Burnley's defence in the current team?

Brilliantly. Van Dijk is the best centre half in the world, for my money.

Superbly I would imagine. That’s why they’re playing for the Champions League winners.

When Van Dijk played at the turf for Southampton he was the best player on the pitch by an absolute mile.

"Tarks and Mee" will never replace "Morecambe and Wise" or "Ant and Dec" tbh

Thought Tarks and Mee were outstanding at Wolves. I thought the physicality and style of Tarks made him comparable to Van Dijk.

Thought, in a good team performance, our two central defenders were simply outstanding at Wolves, probably just as they have been in the first two games.

As for England though, Mee won't get in and I'm not sure Tarkowski will either given Southgate now has his favoured four.

Van Dijk is probably number 1 cb in the world but I would not swap Matip for either Tarks or Mee.
