soft penalties spoiling the game
lost count of how many soft penalties we have conceded now in last season or 2. No good bringing in var etc when the attacking team is looking for contact continuously. I wonder how many points we have lost from this during that period?

Vokes handball at Swansea!mdd2 wrote:How many soft ones have we had in last 5 seaons?
Ashley Barnes being wiped out by the Southampton keeper ----oh wait ---he got booked for diving!
It will all even out with VAR, the saviour of the game which, it is obvious, stops all discussion about the actual game because everyone just talks about VAR now.
Goals like the Man City one last week can be disallowed because the ball brushed the attacking player's arm, however, if it had brushed the defender's arm, it would not have been given as a penalty but, if the ball had continued as it did, the goal would have stood. Great logic!

I blame it all on the invention on the video recordings that let pundits debate the officials decisions and then joe public gets involved and we demand better decisions that benefit us but not them, refusing to accept the officials who officiate may get it wrong.
When I rewrite the rules of the game rule 1 will be only the Captain can speak to the referee and no one other than the referee can speak to the refs assistants. Penalty a straight red card and six game ban which should allow refs to do their jobs unimpeded
No VAR or goal line technology
But all that is pie in the sky sadly

They would then be arguing about which pies in the sky are the best!mdd2 wrote:I blame it all on the invention on the video recordings that let pundits debate the officials decisions and then joe public gets involved and we demand better decisions that benefit us but not them, refusing to accept the officials who officiate may get it wrong.

The problem is often that slow motion replays make the contact look far worse than it actually is.

Rammy has it.
The phrase I hate is, "There was clearly contact!"
So what? That doesn't make it a foul.

Re: soft penalties spoiling the game
I think soft free kicks and cards have ruined the game more than the occasional soft penalty. I find it bizarre you can’t really challenge a goalkeeper in the air, they just fall over and know they will get the free kick.

No, he doesn't. He would have if he'd said 'Not all contact is a foul'.

Re: soft penalties spoiling the game
Agree with this exactly. Contact doesn't matter - the question is was it a foul - to the best of my knowledge football is a contact sport and touching a player, anywhere on the pitch, has never been made illegal as far as I know. Hate that phrase. Before long penalties will be awarded for players being offended at another player invading their 'personal space'. What happened to the 'man's game'?JimmyRobbo wrote:Rammy has it.

Re: soft penalties spoiling the game
Hendricks at United at the one on Sunday are two that spring to mind. When it gets late on and the opposition need a goal they are all looking for any kind of contact as now contact is a penalty. Don’t give the referee(s) a decision to make! Don’t touch them. If they score they score but if you touch them it’s a certain pen and probably a certain goal. This is something Dyche really needs to work on with the players. That is when Dyche isn’t at festivals the day before games of course.
